1 Marijuana smoking legalized in Washington

The authorities of the US capital have made an ambiguous decision: since February 26, 2015 in the state of Columbia it is allowed to smoke marijuana. The bill was approved by local residents in a referendum last November.

Thus, the metropolitan area joined Alaska and Colorado, where it was also allowed to smoke marijuana for recreational purposes. In summer, cannabis smoking is legalized in Oregon, too.

The attitude to legalizing cannabis in the United States is mixed: recent studies by medical doctors have shown that smoking in small doses is almost harmless, but many still consider marijuana a drug. Currently, in about half of the states, marijuana is completely banned, while in others, the use of light drugs is permitted for medical purposes.

Since February 26, Washington has allowed smoking, as well as growing marijuana at home. They are allowed to have up to 60 grams of cannabis, but use in public places is still strictly prohibited.
