City History

The place on which modern Sliema stands was called 'Ortin (a toponym designating open spaces - indeed, it is a flat rocky shore, to which it is easy to adhere). The port ended with a cape, which was named Draguta - a pirate who fought on the side of the Turkish pasha against the Knights-Johannites and Maltese during the Great Siege (1565). Here he was mortally wounded.

Slim began to expand rapidly in the second half of the 19th century - the wealthy residents of Valletta began to build their summer residences here. And in our time this city is a resort, commercial and commercial center of Malta.
