How to get
You can get to Abramtsevo by train from Yaroslavl station, which go to Sergiev Posad or Alexandrov, stop "Abramtsevo", then walk along the forest path to the museum. By car it is necessary to go along the Yaroslavl highway before turning to Leshkovo and Radonezh, then to Khotkovo, then turn to Abramtsevo and along the main road to the manor.

A bit of history
The first mention of Abramtsevo dates back to the 16th century, when the village was called Obramkovo and was registered with the landowner Volynsky. However, the true flourishing of the estate fell on the 19th century, with the writer Sergei Aksakov, the father of the famous Slavophiles of the time, Konstantin and Ivan. During his lifetime the estate was often visited by famous Russian writers - Turgenev and Gogol.
After the death of the owners, by 1870, Abramtsevo was dilapidated, overgrown and stolen .Then the estate was acquired by Savva Ivanovich Mamontov - philanthropist, industrialist, theatrical figure and just a rich man..After renovating the house, having built new kitchen and human, expanding and equipping the territory, Mamontov also created the famous Abramtsevo art circle .It consisted of Polenov, Vasnetsov, Repin, Serov, Korovin, Vrubel and other illustrious artists and sculptors of that time .At the same time, the carpentry and ceramic workshops were opened here, which laid the foundation for Abramtsevo wood carving and the production of majolica (painted ceramics).
The museum acquired the status of the museum in 1917, despite the fact that Grabar, Mashkov, Konchalovsky, sculptors Mukhina and Korolyov often lived and worked here in the 20th century.

Souvenirs
At the entrance to the museum-reserve, in the former human building, you can buy souvenirs and souvenirs. For example, ceramic products from the Abramtsev workshop (pots, figurines, fantastic fish, whistles and similar knick-knacks), as well as wooden chests and dishes decorated with vegetable patterns typical of Abramtsevo-Kudrin woodcarving. Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Abramtsevo
The main attraction of the museum-reserve is, in fact, a one-story manor house, which was built in the late 18th century, but has survived to the present day in the form given to it by Mamontov in the 19th century. Inside you can see the exposition "Family of Aksakovs and its surroundings", as well as "Mamontov Art Circle".
The carved wooden construction of the project of VA Hartman, where the workshop was previously located, invites to the exhibition products of Abramtsevo ceramics and wood carvings. Mostly they come here for Vrubel's work: fireplaces, decorative sculptures of characters from the operas Sadko and Snegurochka, dishes, vases. It is necessary to take a walk to the Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands, which was built "by the whole world": both the layout, and ornaments, and icons, and even banners for it were created by the art circle of the manor.
Near the walls of the church is the family cemetery of the Mamontovs, where Savva Ivanovich himself is buried. Noteworthy is another construction in the pseudo-Russian style of architect I. P. Ropet - a bath-house. For its intended purpose, the bath was practically not used, as it was converted into a guest wing. Today, the exposition of the Abramtsevo carpentry workshop is here - furniture, household items and other items. In the wooden kitchen you can see the works of Russian folk art.
From Vasnetsov manor also got a "hut on chicken legs" - a fairy-tale gazebo, near which the Baba-Yaga has lain - a stone pillar brought by Mamontov from Ukraine. Finally, it is worthwhile to look into the Polenovsky dacha where the artist's workshop was located, and today there are thematic exhibitions.
You can walk around the museum-museum on your own, or you can order one of many sightseeing tours of all the objects of the estate. For children there are very interesting interactive classes, where the story of this amazing place is told in fascinating form. On Sunday and holidays, the manor house can only be visited as part of the excursion group.
