We are planning to fly to Thailand. The itinerary follows: Khabarovsk - Beijing - Shanghai - Bangkok. In Beijing and Shanghai for 7-8 hours to sit. Do we need a Chinese visa in this case or can we do without a 24-hour visa-free corridor?

With this airfare back and forth you should make out a double Chinese visa, as the rule of 24 hours is valid only if you have an air ticket to a third country (Khabarovsk - Beijing - Bangkok, Khabarovsk - Shanghai - Bangkok, etc.), and you are planning air travel within the PRC.
