Italians are very fond of and appreciate the natural wealth of their beautiful country. Total national parks are 25, they occupy 5% of the territory of Italy and are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment. And these parks are all very different.

According to the report on ecotourism compiled by ENIT in cooperation with the Italian state statistics service ISTAT, the University of Aquila and the Abruzzo region, the most popular and therefore most visited parks in Italy are the Abruzzo National Park (located in the Abruzzo, Lazia and Molise regions, in 1923), which accounts for the lion's share of visitors: 39% and which is far away from its competitors.

In second place is the national park "Parco delle Foreste Casentinesi" (located in the Emilia-Romagna-Marche and Tuscany regions, established in 1993), which is preferred by 9% of Italians.

Then follows the national parks Polino (located in the Basilicata and Calabria regions, established in 1993), Cinque Terre (located on the territory of the Liguria region, established in 1999) and Sila (located in the region of Calabria, established in 2002. ). And, finally, the Gran Sasso (located in the territories of the Marche, Abruzzo, Lazi, formed in 1991). But the most ancient national park in Italy is Gran Paradiso (located in the north of Italy, in the provinces of Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont, was established in 1922).
