When in St. Petersburg are the white nights?

Responds information department of "Subtlety of Tourism"
"White nights" refers to a period when after sunset there is no darkness. The light falls just beyond the horizon, by 7-9 degrees, which provides a dim illumination of the terrain. This phenomenon can be observed during the solstice in cities located near the Arctic Circle. St. Petersburg does not geographically enter this zone, nevertheless, it is known in the whole country as "The City of White Nights."

Official sources indicate that they begin on June 11 and last till July 2. In fact, the darkness leaves the city already in the last days of May (after about 25), the nights gradually brightens and in the above period the twilight reigns in the streets after sunset, and at 2.00 and 3.00 hours. Since mid-July, this effect begins to gradually fade, and by the beginning of August nights are becoming the most common for this region.

Most of the tourists want to go to St. Petersburg during the White Nights, when the city on the Neva looks especially impressive. Of course, this should be taken into account and planning a trip, take care of tickets and places in the hotel in advance.
