The main driving force for the development of skiing in Ukraine and the construction of new ski slopes is the ambitious desire of the country's government to participate (and, of course, to win) in the competition for the right to host the Winter Olympics-2022. That is, the Sochi Olympics-2014 may not be the only winter Olympics in the subtropics.

Mountain-skiing resorts in Ukraine are located in the Carpathian region, as well as in the Transcarpathian, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions .In total in Ukraine there are 51 ski resorts .And, perhaps, this is a worthy alternative to similar resorts of far abroad .Equipping them is getting better and better, prices remain at an affordable level, and getting here is an order of magnitude simpler (and cheaper) .Moreover, nature has given Ukraine not only an attractive relief, but also beautiful landscapes in combination with the hospitality of local people and their colorful traditions, which leaves an unforgettable impression for everyone who has come here .

Carpathian Mountains

The most favorable area of Ukraine for active winter recreation are the ski resorts of the Carpathians. Sufficient quantity and quality of the lifts, complexity and variety of descents, prices available to most holiday-makers, the magnificent nature of the Carpathian slopes makes winter holidays in Ukraine more popular, and the ski areas themselves are quite competitive even against the background of European ones. The most famous resorts of Ukraine in the Carpathian Mountains are Bukovel, Slavske, Dragobrat.

Bukovel is a favorite holiday destination of the Ukrainian beau monde, attracting more and more foreign tourists in recent years .It is located on three mountains - Bukovel, Chorna Klava and Dovga .There are more than 50 km of trails for every taste: for beginners, for advanced skiers and snowboarders, as well as for experienced athletes - 7 blue, 28 red and 7 black), 1 rope tow and 15 chair lifts .Its equipment is such that even in the case of abnormally warm winter and lack of natural snow, the snow cannon will give lovers of mountain skis a cover corresponding to the standards .Most of the trails are illuminated, which allows you to ride at night .Decent snow cover here is preserved from December to the end of April .

Bukovel is distinguished by its developed infrastructure: at the foot of the mountain of the same name there are rental points of equipment, a ski school, ski bars, restaurants and even a disco. Moreover, Bukovel can be called a balneological resort, as there is a source of mineral water here.

Slavske is one of the most popular resorts in Ukraine, and since the beginning of the last century: here the "Polish and Austro-Hungarian nobles" came to the waters .Founded in 1438, this village is located 140 km from Lviv and for many years was considered primarily a balneological resort .Today in Slavske often come to ride on the slope, and just have a rest at the weekend .In total Slavske 12 trails of all levels of complexity, except black, with a total length of about 22 km .Here the team of Ukraine trains, here is the "Valley of Dummies" - a small gentle slope, ideal for beginners .In addition to rental ski equipment and the availability of ski schools, there are discos, restaurants, bars, bowling center .In addition, it is worth mentioning separately the extraordinary mountain landscapes and mild climate .

Dragobrat is a highlight of the untouched nature of the Carpathians at the foot of Stog Mountain, where skiing is possible seven months a year .This is the most mountainous skiing base in the Carpathians, so the snow here lasts much longer than at other resorts - from November to May .There are convenient lifts, trails for skiers and snowboarders with any skill level: from training for beginners to extreme for professionals .A total of 16 routes of different levels (blue, red, black) with a length of 300 to 2000 meters, with a height difference of 500 m .On the slope there are restaurants, a Finnish sauna, an open cafe and other establishments that will help the resort guests relax after skiing .

Transcarpathian resorts also include ski resorts Izki, Pilipets, Sinyak, Upper Studeniy, Voevodino, Zhdenevo, Krasia, Mezhgorye, Podobovets, Rakhiv, Synevyr, Uzhok, Khust and Yasinya. On most of them the cost of the descent from 5 UAH.

Ivano-Frankivsk region

Next in the number of ski resorts in Ukraine - Ivano-Frankivsk region. Ivano-Frankivsk region is located in the depths of the highest mountain ranges of Ukraine. On the territory of the region there are such ski resorts as: Verkhovyna, Yablonitsa, Vorokhta, Vyshkov, Kosiv, Tudov, Sheshory, Yaremche.

In addition, Ivano-Frankivsk region argues with Transcarpathia for belonging, perhaps, the most popular ski resort of the country - Bukovel.

Verkhovyna is more suitable for those who want to learn how to ski and not overpay for the name of the resort. The only route with an average difficulty level of 380 m is on Mount Pushkar. Snow on the slopes lies from December to March. Rest in this zone can be combined with the treatment procedures of nearby sanatoria.

Comfortable ski slopes and inexpensive accommodation attract tourists in Yablunytsya. There are 6 trails, 4 rope towers and 2 bowl lifts here.

Vorokhta is not only a ski resort, but also a climatic health resort. It attracts tourists with magnificent nature and pure mountain air. There is one medium-level route (500 m long) and a high-speed ski lift.

Tudov is located on the left bank of the Cheremosh River - it is perfect for a family holiday. The developed infrastructure, a good choice of entertainment for everyone, as well as convenient routes: for beginners (400 m), plus two main routes (600 m and 800 m). There is a lift (400 m) and a baby-elevator.

In Vyskov, one track is located on Mount Zalom (1000 m) - it is wide, has an average difficulty level, but ends with a small cliff, which is not recommended for skating novices. Another route is on the Cheremshina mountain (350 m), and also with an average difficulty level.

On vacation in the resort Vyskov better to take their equipment, because the choice at local points of hire is small.

Kosov, Sheshory, Yaremche - ski resorts of different levels of complexity. The Kosovo route has a length of 1,200 m and is designed for already experienced skiers, in Sheshory three tracks with a height of 700-1500 m for different levels of training, in Yaremche there are two routes (200 and 300 m) for beginners.

The ski complex Dinamo-Trostyan in the village of Slavske allows you to ride from the mountain almost in any direction. The resort has 11 routes of different levels of complexity, including 6 international ski slopes for slalom, super-slalom and super-giant slalom. But the prices are slightly higher than in other resorts.
