Carnival in Brazil is an event that millions of people dream of. Every year in February, before the Great Lent, all Brazil, engulfed by the continuous thunder of drums that beat the rhythm of the incendiary samba, plunges into the most noisy, bright and cheerful holiday - carnival.

Traditions of street carnivals were brought to Brazil by immigrants from the Portuguese islands . Celebrations of "entruda" were then like street carnage, with raw eggs or flour-filled or plaster-covered egg shells, as well as starch crackers and wax balls with odorous water. From the windows on the heads of passers-by, whole corn and beans were poured into baskets. Later, Brazilians adopted fancy items from enlightened Europe, and drummers began to "wedge" in noisy processions.

In our time, the carnival in Brazil begins with the "official part" - the symbolic transfer of keys from the city to the mayor of the "King of Carnival". For four days he becomes the full owner of the city and is given the right to issue and abolish any laws.

Watching the unrestrained fun of the Brazilian carnival, it's hard to believe that every step was rehearsed by dancers for many months.

Carnival in Rio

Carnival in Rio de Janeiro takes place once a year, in February, in the midst of the Brazilian summer. This holiday begins always on Saturday and lasts 4 days and 4 nights. The most enchanting spectacle during the carnival is a parade of samba schools on the "sambadrome", during which a great many participants from the most famous samba schools in fantastic costumes make a terrific show.

Especially for this procession in Rio de Janeiro built "sambadrome" - an alley length of 700 meters, built on the design of the famous Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyr. The stands of the Sambadrom contain more than 70 thousand people, and 40 thousand seats are equipped with tables and bars. For visitors, the ninth sector is intended first of all - places in it are numbered and booked in advance.

Watching the unrestrained fun of the Brazilian carnival, it's hard to believe that every step was rehearsed by the dancers for months. After all, carnival "mass meeting" should win the hearts of not only the audience: the action is closely watched by the panel of judges. The jury takes into account everything: music and lyrics, synchronism of movements, matching of costumes to the plot and "scene of action."

As more than three hundred thousand tourists come to the Brazilian carnival, Rio de Janeiro hotels are overcrowded these days, and prices in comparison with the calm "season of the year" soar twice - so it takes several months to book places.
