When registering a tourist visa (usually not a group visa) to China, everywhere it is written about the need for an invitation. And if I go without a travel agency, where can I get this invitation? and is it possible at all without it?

The invitation is provided by the Chinese organization (travel company, authorized state institutions, etc.), which has the right to invite foreigners to the PRC. You yourself do not take this document anywhere.
