Since January 1, 2010 in Cyprus, a ban on smoking in public places. This law is one of the most stringent in the European Union, according to which you can smoke only in specially designated places.

On the street you can not smoke - for this can write a fine. In most rooms - too. However, many cafes and restaurants in Cyprus are equipped with specially designated areas (usually outdoors) for smoking. In addition, the ban does not apply to beaches yet. The law applies even to cars, if they are under the age of 14.

The penalty for smoking in an unauthorized place is € 85. If the violation is not a one-off, the punishment is already determined by the court: either a significant fine, or deportation, or even a ban on visiting Cyprus.

However, even in the allowed places smoking in Cyprus is not cheap: cigarettes cost 4-4, 5 EUR, you can import no more than 10 packs from duty-free.

Local residents who have not yet got rid of this bad habit, most often smoke cigarettes, buying separately tobacco and cigarette paper.
