The US Agency for International Development (USAID) allocated 300,000 USD for the creation of an underwater museum on the site of the shipwreck. All the preparatory work was carried out with the support and control of the Dominican Office for National Underwater Cultural Heritage (ONPCS). The artifacts found during the preparation will also arrive in other museums of the Dominican Republic after study and examination in the laboratories of the University of Indiana.
Researchers date the exhibits in 1699 year .They refer them to the merchant vessel "Kedah merchant", which was captured by the notorious pirate captain William Kidd off the west coast of India, and then sunk off the coast of the Catalina island..Historians are still arguing about whether Captain Kidd was indeed a pirate or possessing permits from the authorities and in times of war attacked merchant ships of the enemy .After a loud trial and charges of piracy brought against him, William Kidd was publicly executed in London, and his body was left to hang over the Thames for two years to edify other pirates..
