Cairo (Arabic al-Qāhira - "victorious") is the capital of Egypt and the largest city in Africa. The Egyptians themselves often call it Masr. This is a noisy and dirty metropolis that has won the fame of Arab Rome - for a huge number of monuments and the same number of tourists.

Market of Cairo
Khan Al-Khalili market (or simply "Khan") in Cairo is considered one of the best in the world. This is one of the oldest bazaars, which opened in Cairo in the distant 1382 year. Since then, the number of shops, buyers, curious tourists and, of course, goods has increased significantly. But, perhaps, the most successful assortment on Khan-al-Khalili is presented by products made of glass, copper, perfumery and jewelry made by local handicraftsmen.
The cynical traveler will say that Khan-al-Khalili is a real trap for tourists, and in something even be right. Huge tourist buses every day bring here crowds of naive constantly twirling head of a prostitute, who do not know how to haggle and do not watch vigilantly for their handbags and cameras. And in vain

- Go on a date with an eternity in the Giza Valley

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Cairo
Islamic Cairo - one big market, cheekily located almost throughout the medieval city. The most "tourist" quarter is the Khan-al-Khalili bazaar near the Al-Azhar mosque: boot cleaners, cats and sham gold. The most popular mosque is Sultan Hasan.
The Cairo TV tower (Burj al-Kahir, tel .: +20 (0) 2 738 37 90, Zamalek) with a restaurant on the top floor is the most amusing sight of Cairo. All the waiters here go in the costumes of the pharaohs.
Other places of interest are the mosques of Amra, Ibn Tulun, al-Azhar, al-Hakim, al-Guyushi, al-Akmar, al-Salih at-Talai, Sultan Baybars, al-Muayyad, Kite-bey, Sinan Pasha, Muhammad Ali. Also: the mausoleum of Al-Shafi'i, the mosque, the mausoleum and the madrasah of Sultan Kalahun, the mosque, the mausoleum and the madrasah of Sultan Hasan, the houses of al-Guriya, Zainab-Khatun, Gamal al-Din al-Zahabi and Emir Ridvan-bey.
Pyramids of Giza
Giza (al-Gīza) is an area on the western outskirts of the Egyptian capital, famous for the largest congestion of tourists per square meter. It is here that one of the main attractions of Egypt, if not the whole world - the ancient pyramids and the icy tranquility of the Sphinx are located.
City of scavengers
On the outskirts of Cairo there is an unusual quarter known as the "City of scavengers" .It is populated by Egyptian Christians - the Copts, who collect garbage from around the city and sort it for reuse .Waste is found everywhere: among houses, on rooftops and in yards .This is a family business, which brings its participants quite decent, by local standards, income .At the highest point of the quarter, a modern temple and religious complex was built .The cathedral, which is located in a cave in the thickness of the rock, can accommodate up to 20 thousand parishioners .
Quarter itself, oddly enough, is broken in the ancient Northern and Southern cemeteries of the city. Among the luxurious Sultan mausoleums, these Coptic families look more than exotic.
Museums of Cairo
Cairo Egyptian Museum (tel .: +20 (0) 2 578 24 48, Midan El Tahrir, working hours: Mon-Sun 9: 00-18: 45, entrance - 50 LE, website) and Tahrir Square - the very center semi-European Cairo (mansions 19-20 centuries). The museum itself (opening hours Mon-Sun from 9:00 to 16:30) is better to examine in several visits, otherwise from the abundance of attractions everything in your head is mixed. It is necessary to go into the hall of the mummies of the pharaohs (a separate ticket, the cost around 10 USD).
