Giza (al-Giza) is an area on the western outskirts of the Egyptian capital, known for the largest congestion of tourists per square meter. Giza is located on the plateau of the same name, strictly in the west of Cairo along the Pyramids Road, which connects a large metropolis with dust-wrought wonders of the world - the ancient pyramids. It is here that one of the main attractions of Egypt, if not the whole world, is located.
Almost every schoolboy knows the concept of the "pyramid of Giza", and a little over a century ago Pyramids Road was a provincial road that ran along the irrigation fields to a tiny village. Since the 20th century, Giza began to grow rapidly, and the number of tourists increased. The fields are built up cafes and restaurants, shops and nightclubs. It can not be said that the authorities resisted this very much, after all tourism brings considerable income to the country's budget.

How to get to Giza
Metro line number 2 connects Cairo with Giza, but to the pyramids, for obvious reasons, does not reach. It is necessary to get off at Giza station, from there to the monastery of the archaeologists a couple of kilometers, 15-20 minutes by shuttle bus or buses 900 and 997 along Al-Haram avenue (50 piastres passage). You can, of course, get in a taxi: the pyramids are not so far from the center of the capital.
In addition, large white air-conditioned buses 355 and 357 run from the center of Cairo to Giza. Departures every 20 minutes from the airport and Heliopolis also stop on demand at the Abdel Menem Riyad station, near the Egyptian Museum. The fare is 2 pounds.
The fare is indicated in April 2011.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Giza
"Business Card" of Egypt - the local pyramids of Cheops, Khafre and Mikerin. Today these names do not surprise anyone, but even in ancient times they were considered one of the seven wonders of the world. The largest is the pyramid of Cheops, the second pharaoh of the IV dynasty. Its base is a square with a side of 227, 5 meters, a height of 146.6 meters (now 9 meters below, since the upper stones fell during earthquakes). Date of construction: about 2590 BC. e.
Impressed with trivial facts, we "run through" the interior, which is really small, what it is: inside the pyramid of Cheops there are no inscriptions or bas-relief. There are only three burial chambers, trimmed with granite slabs with a sarcophagus. Here in due time have not found neither mummy, nor funeral utensils, probably, all have plundered before arrival of tourists. On the south side of the pyramid is a Sun rook about 44 meters long - one of five, on which Cheops was supposed to go to the other world.
The second largest pyramid is the pyramid of the pharaoh Khafre, built 40 years after Cheops. It is not much smaller: the side of the square base is only 215 meters, the height is 136 meters. And, finally, the third - the Pyramid of Micherine, the construction of which was completed in 2505 BC. e.
In addition, the complex of Giza includes temples in the valley, roads, a temple of the dead and small pyramids. The lower temple is known as the place of mummification of Khafre, here once stood 25 statues of the pharaohs. The small pyramids served as tombs for the wives of the pharaohs, priests and major officials. At the very foot of the Giza plateau is located and the Great Sphinx - a lion with a man's head (Mamluks soldiers shot his nose) 73 meters long, 20 meters high.
Light-music show
Every evening at the pyramids there is a light-music show, during which a bright spotlight alternately illuminates one or another of Giza's attractions, during which there is a fascinating tale of Ancient Egypt and the history of pyramid construction (including in Russian).
