Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Tbilisi
The main sights of Tbilisi are its cathedrals and churches: the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Metekhi Church, Narikala Castle on the banks of the Kura, Anchiskhati - the oldest cathedral in the capital, built in the 6th century, the Jvarismam Church (16th c.), Zemo Betlemi Cathedral (Christmas), built in 18th c., Kvashveti church, as well as monuments of Catholic architecture: St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in the Baroque style and the Church of Our Lady. Certainly worth a stroll through the ancient quarters of the city - there are many historical buildings of the 18-19 centuries.
The Narikala Fortress is the architectural dominant of Tbilisi. Built by the Persians in the 4th century as a military stronghold, the fortress grew under the Arab emirs in the 8th century, but was badly damaged ten centuries later, when Russian military warehouses blew up by mistake. At the same time, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, restored only in the 1990s, was destroyed. From the top of Narikali, there is a panoramic view of Tbilisi, and the Tbilisi Botanical Garden stretches at the foot.
Abanotubani is a unique region of sulfur baths. Everywhere you can see neat dome, almost at ground level, and, most importantly, try the healing effect of sulfuric substance. Simple spa services are offered: washing and massages.
Noteworthy are the museums of Tbilisi: Archaeological, with an extensive collection of exhibits of the ancient history of Sakartvelo (including the skull of the extinct fellow of homo sapiens), Artistic, Numismatic, and absolutely wonderful Puppet Museum. It is worth to visit ethnomies in the open air, which is on the Turtle Lake, in the nearest suburb of Tbilisi. Here, 70 types of houses were created, typical for different regions of Georgia, and more than 8000 objects of everyday life and crafts were collected. Prices are shown in September 2011.
