How to get
Daily, several buses from Athens (a journey time of 3 hours) arrive at the bus station in Delphi (Terminal B). From Delph to Athens buses leave at 07.30, 10.30, 13.00, 15.30, 17.30, 20.00, back to 05.30, 09.00 (except Sundays), 11.10, 13.30, 16.00, 18.00. The fare will be 13.6 EUR one way. Climate
The warmest months are July and August, when the thermometer's column rises above the 30 degree mark. The coldest months are December and January with a temperature of 4-5 degrees Celsius.
Transport
Delphi is a very small city, therefore it is quite possible to travel on foot. Although taxi services are also available.
Kitchen
The menu of the I Skala tavern includes a large selection of delicious ready-to-eat dishes such as stifado (stewed veal) with orzo and onion paste, and delicious mezedhes - eggplant salad and grilled cheese.
In the Vakhos Tavern you can try goat cheese with lemon as a snack and cock in a wine sauce as the main dish. From the tavern you can enjoy stunning views of the Corinthian Gulf.
The specialty of the tavern Gargadouas is the roasted lamb provatina and souvlaki (diced meat on a spit).
Entertainment, excursions and attractions Delphi
Temple of Apollo the Pythian 6-4 centuries. BC. e., found in excavations in 1892 - the main attraction of Delphi.
Opposite is the main altar of the sanctuary, dating from the 5th century. BC. e., almost completely built of black marble. To the north-east of the main shrine is a "stoa" consisting of seven corrugated columns, the inscription on which indicates that the colonnade was built in honor of the victory over the Persians in 478 BC. e.
Treasury of the Athenians, built in honor of the victory of the Athenians in the Battle of Salamis. Among other things, Delphi is famous for statues of athletes, very well preserved. The earliest statues are the statues of Kleobis and Biton. Is there a museum in the center of the city? containing a collection of antique artifacts, including beautiful specimens of chickens (statues of young athletes) in the 6th century. BC. e.
Noteworthy is also the stadium, originally built in the 5th century. BC. the last reconstruction of which dates back to the 2nd century BC. BC. e. Once this stadium could hold 6,500 spectators.
The ancient Delphic theater was built in such a way that viewers could see a view of the Apollo temple and the valley below, and 35 rows of the theater accommodated 5,000 spectators.
Approximately 800 meters from the main ruins there is a tolos, a circular structure with a diameter of 14.75 meters and consisting of 20 Doric and 10 Corinthian columns built in 380-360. BC. e.
Museums
Delphi also has an archaeological museum, located at the foot of the main archaeological complex. The museum contains a rich collection of sculptures, statues and other items.
Fans of Greek drama should definitely visit the Siqueulianos Museum, located in an old mansion overlooking Delphi. The museum is dedicated to the Greek poet Angelos Sikelianos and his American spouse Eva Palmer, who together made Delphi a modern center of dramatic art. Photo of the Delphi (20)
