Kalambaka is a small town at the foot of the Meteor, the starting point of travel to monasteries. The modern city was almost rebuilt after the destruction of the Second World War. As the skeleton crosses it along the main street, to which adjoin several cozy squares decorated with fountains - here locals often gather for communication and rest.

At night, the rocks illuminate the floodlights, giving them an even more mysterious and majestic view.

Entertainment, Excursions and Attractions of Kalambaka

Kalambaka Museum is located on the outskirts of the city, on the way to Kastraki and monasteries. The exposition is devoted to the daily life of rural Greece, complemented by its collection of photographs exhibited on the second floor of the museum.

The Cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was erected in the 12th century on the site of early Christian basilicas of the 5th-6th centuries, and was repeatedly rebuilt. The temple is decorated with unusual frescoes of the 14th century.

In the newspaper booths of the city you can buy a brochure "The Footpaths of Meteora", compiled by Antonis Kalogir. The book contains a detailed description of five routes, including monasteries open to visitors, paths to some of the ruined monasteries and other interesting objects of the Meteor neighborhood.
