By bus from Athens (fare 7 EUR, travel time 1 h 30 min) and Livadia (3.9 EUR, 45 min). Buses arrive at the central bus station of Thev.

A bit of history
After the Trojan War (12th century BC) Thebes became the dominant city of Boeotia. In the year 371 BC. e. Thebes emerge victorious in the struggle against the invincible Sparta. However, the glory of the city was abated, when in 335, under the influence of false rumors about the death of Alexander of Macedon, Thebes rebelled against the Macedonian domination. Alexander ravaged the city to its foundations, 6,000 Thebans were killed in a bloody battle, and another 30 thousand were taken prisoner.
