Greece offers tourists hotels of any level both on the mainland and on the islands. In addition to the traditional "star" classification, the old "letter" system for designating the class of hotels is accepted here: from L - luxury, analogue 5 *, to E - "without category", approximately 1-2 *. However, it is often found that E-class hotels have a higher level of service than some Class C hotels, that is 3 *.

Most hotels in Greece are private. However, several major international networks are also represented here - such as Hilton or Best Western. There are also purely Greek network hotels - Louis and Chandris, Luxury Collection of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, offering extra-class rooms. The cost of accommodation in hotels of this class is not limited: that is, it starts from approximately € 150-200, but € 500 in some cases is quite possible.

Pensions

However, network hotels are guaranteed not to convey the charm of the Greek way of life, hospitality and hospitality, like small private hotels or boarding houses (paradosiakoi oikismoi). Here you will find yourself much closer to local traditions, a leisurely rhythm of life and the charm of a family hearth both in the capital and in the province. The city usually offers separate rooms-apartments for two or three beds with a shower, in the suburbs - small houses with four beds with all amenities. They can be settled as separately in a room or a house, or "with a population."

Prices are comparable with the "top D-class" (€ 30-40 per night), all kinds of discounts are possible. In large cities, as well as higher-level hotels, the rates are as follows: C-class (analogue 3 *) - € 40-60 (in summer € 60-85), B-class (4 *) - no less € 85-110 ( in the summer - € 110-150 and above, depending on the location).

Hostels

Hostels in Greece are not very common: all year round there are five youth hostels in Athens, two in Santorini, one each in Corfu, Ios and Paros. All of them are members of the International Federation of Hostels in Athens. There are still a number of similar premises belonging to the Greek Association of Youth Hostels, only they work exclusively in the spring-summer period. The lodging for them will cost € 7-9 per person, depending on the location of the hostel. Most of them have a "curfew" from 23.00-24.00 to 6.00.

Monasteries

Greek monasteries also have a tradition of accommodating travelers. Of course, for this you must strictly observe the rules adopted in them: for accommodation in monasteries, the same-sex guests will be denied, it is necessary to observe decency in clothes, and also not to return to the territory after the due date. This applies to monasteries on the mainland: on the islands of monasteries, mostly closed guests are not taken from tourists.

Campings

In Greece, official camping grounds are active, running from April to October, and parking outside the designated limits is prohibited. The cost of accommodation at night in camping houses is € 5-7, the area under the tent will cost even less. Their location can be found on a variety of tourist maps issued by the Hellenic Association of Camping.

Features of living in Greek hotels

Despite the popularity of Greece among tourists from all over the world, there are quite a lot of budget options here - not only in the suburbs and rural areas, but also in Athens, other big cities, at large resorts.

The local medium-sized hotels offer small rooms with small bathrooms, which are equipped with either shower cabins or sitting baths. In the simplest rooms there may not be a cabinet, or there will be only one, quite small. But in almost every hotel there is at least a tiny balcony, or a common, but rather spacious veranda.

In all hotels, regardless of the level of cleanliness. Most rooms in Greek hotels are equipped with air conditioning - except for old buildings with thick walls, which do not need air conditioning. Televisions are also almost everywhere, but as a rule, broadcasting is in Greek, there are few channels. In low-priced hotels they rarely put phones in their rooms.

The main problem you can face is noise. Constantly signaling cars, deafeningly chirping along narrow streets of motorcycles, bars and nightclubs, strolling until the morning ... If you want to find a quiet place, choose hotels in the old part of the city and nearby villages.

Rental housing

A worthy alternative to hotels in Greece is the rental of apartments and houses - there are proposals for any budget in different parts of the country. In addition to private traders and specialized companies, many hotel chains provide a similar service: in addition to hotels offers apartments with kitchens, so-called studios, and sometimes full-fledged apartments. Often this is a so-called symbiosis: the hotel can provide some rooms with kitchens, or in the neighborhood of the hotel a special aparthotel opens.

In addition, in some years and resort areas of Greece there are whole neighborhoods, built-up houses for rent, with all the necessary technical facilities and amenities. There are also simple private houses for rent, in which some lack of amenities is offset by the price and purely Greek hospitality. However, the price and quality are not necessarily interrelated, we recommend that you carefully examine the room before settling in and paying.

Apartment for rent

Rent a city apartment (dhiamerismata) - a popular option for placing a family or a fun company. It is convenient, gives some freedom of movement, organization of free time, plus such housing is usually located in quiet areas. The average cost is € 100 per person.

Studio for rent

A very popular (including due to the ratio of price and quality) are the so-called studios (garsoniera), consisting of one large room with a sink, stove and a small refrigerator. The studio usually has a balcony or veranda, TV and air conditioning, in some cases there is a telephone and Internet access. In contrast to the hotel, the maid service is provided once every two or three days, and the guests need to take care of their meals themselves. But the studios are usually located in more tranquil and picturesque areas than hotels.

Village houses and villas

Accommodation in country houses (dhomatia) is suitable for romantic natures. Despite the remoteness, such apartments are very comfortable and renovated by the Greek National Tourist Organization. And for those who do not skimp on rest, you can always find a picturesque villa on the seashore, from where the magnificent view will open, and the interiors and equipment will satisfy even the most demanding taste.

If you have a decent budget, then you can rent a luxury villa right on the beach. And every day you will have a beautiful view.

Seasonality

Prices for accommodation in hotels, private rooms and houses can vary depending on location and season. So from October to May, prices in Greece are the lowest (discounts reach 50%), peak season and seasonal prices fall on the segment from the middle of July to the second and third decade of September, and from June to mid-July, prices are set at 70-80% of the maximum. During this period it is better to reserve rooms in advance - this guarantees their availability and, possibly, not so high price.

The surge in visiting Greece and, as a result, the increase in demand for hotels also occurs during Easter and Christmas vacations, when prices can soar to summer level.

In winter, it is easier to find an apartment or a house for rent than a hotel room: the latter during this period are either closed at all or are under repair. This is especially true of the Greek islands, where at best there is one year-round hotel and, perhaps, only one tavern.
