Greenland is a sparsely populated country, and hotel services here are not developed everywhere. So most hotels you will find in Nuuk, the capital of the island, as well as in the cities of Tasiilak and Ilulissat (formerly Jakobshavn). And, for example, in the cities of Itokortormit, Kangatsiak and Upernavik hotels you will not find at all.

All hotels here are subject to mandatory classification and are equivalent in terms of service to hotels in Denmark. The highest category is 4 *. There are only three here: Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat, Hotel Sisimiut in Sisimiut and Hotel Hans Egede in Nuuk.

Be prepared for the fact that housing (and, accordingly, accommodation in hotels) in Greenland is expensive. There are even world-class hotels located in the most visited areas: Hotel Hans Egede in Nuuk and Hotel Hvide Falke on the coast of the UNESCO listed Ilulissat fjord.

Perhaps the most unforgettable for a tourist will be the placement in a real polar needle - this service is provided by Hotel Arctic, which is also located on the coast of Ilulissat.

However, do not despair: there are still budget options for settling here. For example, the Seaman's Home network, located in Nuuk, Kvaroka, Manitosok, Sisimyut and Aasiaat.

And, finally, for the most economical there are options for accommodation in hostels in Nuuk itself, or rent rooms from local residents. As a rule, the last option will cost at least three times cheaper than the hotel room.

In large cities, there are family-run B & B guest houses that offer not only accommodation for a small fee, but also the opportunity to share national cuisine and share the everyday life of the Greenlanders at the same table.

In Greenland, you can also rent a cottage, but only in the summer - from June to September. They are decorated in a traditional style, but are made of modern materials.

In addition, in Greenland, you can break a small campground anywhere - there is very little private land. However, the climate here allows you to live in a tent camp for only a few weeks a year.

Usually hotels in Greenland are located in houses with a height of one or two floors. In most hotels you can find a restaurant or bar. Breakfasts are always included in the price of the accommodation and preferential meals are held in the buffet format.
