In January 2015, Lithuania transfers to EUR. At the same time, only half of Lithuanians support the rejection of the national currency in favor of the common European, while 39% of the local residents believe that it was better to save LTL. Another 8%, according to the Bank of Lithuania, have not decided what is best for the country.
Critics of the transition believe that Lithuania voluntarily renounces an important symbol of independence. Supporters of the LTL preservation are going to express their mourning mood with a symbolic funeral ceremony of the national currency, all those who wish to take part in it.
An improvised event will be held in January and starts from the Neris River. There, on the embankment, a ceremony of cremation of the local currency is planned. LTL ashes are planned to disperse over the river.
Organizers call for "LTL cremation" in mourning clothes and wreaths.
