The Mayor's Office of the Portuguese capital decided to charge a new tax on entry from tourists arriving in the city from the beginning of 2015. According to the new rule, any traveler traveling to Lisbon by plane or by sea must pay a tax of 1 EUR.
The innovation does not apply to tourists entering the capital by bus, car or train. At the same time, the city authorities insist that the measure is temporary: in 2019, the entry tax will be canceled. In total, thanks to the new collection, Lisbon expects to earn 7 million EUR.
In addition, since 2016 Lisbon introduces a tax on accommodation: a tourist who stops at the hotel will have to pay an additional 1 EUR per day to the city treasury. The tax will also exist only until 2019 and will affect only adult tourists. In addition, the fee is valid only for 1 week in the city.
