St. John's Day

This is a very ancient pagan festival dedicated to the sun and its victory over the darkness. With the Day of St. John (in our opinion - Ivan Kupala) many traditions and customs are associated.

Pancake week in Slovakia is called "Fashank". At the end of winter, Slovaks are full of pancakes, baked goods, sausages and Slovak cheeses. Many cities still take to caroling, singing, dancing and having fun. There is a sign: if you celebrate a stranger on a holiday - the year will be fruitful.

In April, Bratislava turns into a huge flowering garden - the time comes for the festival of flowers. The exhibition takes about four square kilometers of the square, flowers decorated with houses, parks, fences, benches. Those who wish can buy their favorite compositions and take part in the drawing up of ikebans, as well as get advice on landscape design.

Every April in Bojnice there comes a unique event - the festival of ghosts. According to ancient legend, Bojnice castle has long been inhabited by ghosts. And it is here that the night procession of spirits, sorcerers and other evil spirits passes under the light of torches. Guests of the festival can visit a tour of the castle and surrounding areas, and every counter vampire will tell an interesting story related to this place.

In mid-June in Bratislava, a beer festival is widely celebrated. For 10 days, guests of the holiday can taste a variety of ancient drinks and participate in interesting contests. Every evening, music concerts are organized within the framework of the festival.

Slovakia - the land of vineyards and winemakers. That is why in September in the city of Pezinok Vinobranie is celebrated - a festival of harvesting grapes and young wine. The celebration can not do without dances, music and songs, guests have the opportunity to taste fragrant drinks.

An ancient rite is held on Vinobrainiane - "mountain clogging". The dug hole is filled with ripe grapes, a pole with flowers and cereals on top (a symbol of fertility) is installed in it and sprinkled with holy water.

One of the most striking events of Slovakia is Coronation Day - the carnival taking place in Bratislava in early September. The festive procession ends with a theatrical performance, exactly imitating the coronation ceremony. There are also the rulers of the country at the festival.

Sanctification is an autumn holiday marking the end of rural work and the transition to winter. This is a family celebration, which is celebrated in a close circle, the table is sure to put kalachi, fried geese, beer and wine.
