Mediterranean resorts of Syria are located on the hills and mountains along the long coast. There clean sea air, comfortable climate and crystal clear water. The main seaside resort, Shatt al-Azraq (Cote d'Azur) is located in the vicinity of the main seaport of the country, Latakia.

Beaches of Latakia

The swimming season on the local shallow, and therefore well-warming waters, lasts from May to November. Beaches are sandy, comfortable, well suited for recreation with children: there is practically no big waves.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions in Latakia

In Latakia, you can see the Bacchus colonnade, which belonged to the temple of Adonis, and a Roman arch built in the 2nd century AD. In addition, the city has preserved a "medieval corner" - several Christian churches of the 5-6 centuries.

Ugarit, one of the oldest cities of Phenicia, is located near Latakia and is interesting for its archaeological excavations. There are ruins of numerous palaces, port constructions, temples and elements of city development.

Raas-ibn-Hani is a huge, grass-covered wasteland opposite the Le Meridien hotel, where in the past there was a Phoenician settlement. Excavations there are still in the initial stage, but the northern and southern palaces have already been found, which can be viewed during leisure time free time.

Almost every hotel offers water sports, equipped with tennis courts and swimming pools. In general, the local "entertainment program" for holidaymakers is not too rich, but it is compensated by the wide opportunities for very affordable excursion trips.
