The main air harbor of the Turkish city is preparing an innovation for arriving foreigners: a biometric control system will be implemented at Ataturk airport in the near future.
With an annual passenger flow of about 57 million people, Ataturk Airport is the largest and most loaded in Turkey. Now it takes from 15 to 21 seconds to pass the control. Currently, 4 e-gates, which read biometric data, are working in a test mode and only apply to Turkish citizens. However, subsequently all passengers arriving at the airport will pass a similar procedure.
The administration of the Istanbul hub reports that the e-gate system will relieve the airport, since the arrivals data will be processed much more quickly and with greater efficiency.
Currently, such systems are used in some airports in the US and the UK.
