It was here in the eighteenth century that Empress Catherine II always wanted to come. And of course, the famous Panorama of the defense of Sevastopol during the Crimean War on the Historic Boulevard, which by UNESCO decision is included in the golden historical treasury of the world. Here on the historic boulevard there is a monument to Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy, a participant of the Crimean War. No less valuable for historians is Malakhov Kurgan, the central battleground of that war, where Admiral Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov was mortally wounded.

Until now, old-timers have arranged whole trips with metal detectors, shovels and picks to find relics of those events, and, as a rule, return with a rich "catch". This "catch" often includes finds of another war that took place almost 90 years later, but left a deep trace in the hearts and memory of Sevastopol citizens and the whole country - the Great Patriotic War.
250 days Sevastopol kept the defense, the enemy entered already completely destroyed city, and did not surrender. This page of history in Sevastopol is very honored and widely celebrated the Victory Day, which coincides with the day of liberation of the city.
