Hanoi (Ha Noi) - the capital of Vietnam for more than a thousand years - is distinguished by an amazing mix of East and West, Chinese traditions and French architecture. The city, located almost 15 km along the Hongha river (the "red"), is divided into seven central regions (the "quantum"), surrounded by outskirts ("huyen"). One of the most noteworthy is the charming "Old Quarter" or "36 Fo-Phuong" - a labyrinth of narrow streets turned into a huge shopping district.
The main attraction of Hanoi - its relative unpopularity among tourists .Here you do not risk getting lost in the crowd of curious travelers, behind which the city, and sometimes the whole country, is usually not seen .It is possible to plunge into the atmosphere of a hundred year old for a couple of hours - it's enough to step into the depths of the streets of the Old City, walk along local markets, among which the Silk Street and the Kuangba Flower Market are especially famous, and admire the views of Hoan Kiem Lake, at the bottom of which, according to legend, magic sword .
Well, let most tourists use Hanoi only as a staging post on the way to the ancient capital of Hue and the resort of Halong. And you will stay for a couple of days, and then, perhaps, the first days of travel around Vietnam will remain in your memory as a separate pleasant memory.

How to get to Hanoi
35 kilometers north of Hanoi is Noi Bai International Airport (45-60 minutes). Direct flights from Russia are performed by: Vietnam Airlines, Aeroflot (from Sheremetyevo), and Vladivostok Avia (from Vladivostok). The city can be reached by taxi, the fare is 14-20 USD (paying in dongas is cheaper).
A public bus to the city center from the airport costs 5000 VND, on the way about an hour. Bus No. 7 crosses the Thang Long Bridge and travels to the Daewoo Hotel in western Hanoi. Bus No. 17 crosses the Chuong Duong Bridge and rides towards the Old Quarter. There is also a bus that runs to Hoan Kiem Lake.
A minibus shuttle from the airport in Hanoi stops at the Vietnam Airlines office at 1 Quang Trung. Tickets are sold in a building in front of which minibuses are parked, in addition, you can pay to the driver either by dollars (2 USD) or by dongs (30,000 VND).

Transport
About 60 bus routes are laid in the city and district, along which clean, comfortable and air-conditioned cars run. The fare is 3500 dong (cheaper only on foot). It is worth buying a map of routes in advance (Xe Buyt Hanoi, only in Vietnamese, but understand no wonder) for 5 thousand dong. The taxi is also popular and inexpensive, for landing and the first two kilometers take from 10 to 15 thousand dong, each kilometer - plus 8 thousand.
A great way to explore both the center of Hanoi and its surroundings is a bike or scooter. Most of the hotels and guest houses offer these vehicles for their guests: a pedal non-motorized (aka bicycle) for $ 1 a day, buzzing and needing gasoline (the same scooter) for about $ 5 a day. The only nuance that is worth remembering: the traffic to Hanoi is crazy: there are few traffic lights and parking lots, but there are a lot of thieves, few drivers who observe traffic rules - a lot of drivers.
Markets
To visit Hanoi and not to visit one of its markets is ... it's like Paris and that tower, which everyone is strongly advised to climb. But back to the noisy, bubbling, fragrant (and not always delicious) bazaars of the capital of Vietnam. Find everything you can imagine, you can at Hang Da (Phung Hung, Duong Thanh and Ly Nam De streets). Second-hand clothes, animals, insects, plants, food, household goods, a lamp with gin and an eye of a viper in a skunk syrup - in stock and for pennies.
In the market of Cho Hom, you can buy equipment and factory goods - from the extra class for the money you are making, even for Vietnam, a fake, just for a ridiculous penny. Bargaining is appropriate. Wholesalers and interested people can look at the collapse of Dong Xuan. And, finally, it is worth to visit the night market, which opens, as a rule, not earlier than 7 pm.

Spring is a great time of year to visit Hanoi: despite the short rains, there is a wonderful weather, nature gives the fragrance of blossoming flowers and fresh wind. But to go to Hanoi in the summer is not the best idea: it's hot and mosquitoes, mosquitoes and hot.
In the Hanoi Autumn there is something unique. Perfect weather, comfortable temperature, the opportunity to flaunt the jacket or jacket you just bought, and the flowering of the cay hoa sua tree, which occurs only at this time of the year. To endure in Hanoi winter only by Russian forces (we are not afraid of cold), because here it's not only cold, but also damp.
