By train
The most convenient way to get to Ghent by train. The main railway station is named after St. Peter - St Pietersstation. It is more like a fortress than a railway station, and is 2 km south of the city center. Some trains also stop at Gent-Dampoort station, which lies to the east of Ghent's center.

Transport
The city has a developed system of public transport: buses, trams and trolleybuses. Tariff system for all modes of transport is used the same. Tickets can be bought at vending machines at stops (1, 2 EUR for 1 hour), at the driver (2 EUR for 1 hour), at newsstands, or at special Lijnwinkel kiosks. In the latter, maps of the city with all routes are also given free of charge. At night, free buses run, the operating mode: from 23:30 to 02:30 on Fri and Sat - especially for "spree" individuals.

The historical center of Ghent is small, it is most convenient to inspect it on foot, but here both railways. The station - where most of the tourists arrive - is located quite far from the center. The city center also tram lines for numbers 1, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Belgium is famous for its beer, and Gent, I think, is no exception. In search of authentic pubs, direct your feet to St. Petersburg Square.
