My friends and I (only 5 people) are going to travel Mongolia - China - Vietnam - Cambodia - Thailand (on land), and then by plane on the route Macau - Hong Kong - China - Mongolia - Russia. Is it possible to use the group invitation to China? If yes, then on the way back can I re-use this invitation or will it be necessary to receive a transit Chinese visa?

A group visa to China entitles you to a one-time visit to the country. Thus, if the period of your stay in China is less than 24 hours on the way back, you can apply for a visa-free list for the first entry, if your flight requires a stop for more than a day, you should get a double visa of the PRC.
Information on obtaining a visa to China can be found here.
