Entrance to the country

When crossing a border, it is necessary to show:

  • a passport valid for at least three months at the time of entry into the country;
  • return tickets with a fixed departure date.

In some cases, tourists may be asked to show proof of sufficient funds or booking a hotel.

Registration of a visa

To obtain a visa to the Consular Section of the Embassy of Costa Rica, you must provide the following documents:

  • a passport with a validity of at least 6 months at the time of entry into the country;
  • copy of the first page of the passport with the personal data of the tourist;
  • filled in English or Spanish and personally signed by a tourist application in two copies;
  • 2 passport photos;
  • certificate from the place of work with indication of salary, position and experience;
  • certificate from the bank on the movement of funds on the account for the last 3 months;
  • a copy of the booking of air tickets and hotels (usually provided by the tour operator).
If you have a valid visa for the United States, Canada or the Schengen zone for a further 3 months at the time of entry, you can enter Costa Rica freely, without receiving any more treasured stickers in your passport.

If you plan a trip with children, you must provide a copy of the child's birth certificate. If the child is entered in the passport of one of the parents, only the child's photo is additionally provided, if he has his own passport - the full package of documents for the visa.

If a child under the age of 18 travels accompanied by one of the parents or third parties, it is necessary to provide a notarized power of attorney from the remaining parent or parents.

The visa processing period is 1-3 working days, the consular fee of 20 USD is not charged when applying for a visa, but is paid at the airport upon arrival. The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of issue.

Citizens of the CIS countries will need the same list of documents.

Documents are either submitted to the consulate personally by tourists, or by a notarized power of attorney. It sounds strange, but, nevertheless, the fact: in Costa Rica there is a restriction on the entry of citizens whose appearance fits the definition of "hippies".
