Split is located in the central part of the Croatian coast between the towns of Zadar and Dubrovnik, dividing Dalmatia into two parts. It is the second largest city in the country and it is located on the Marjan Peninsula, between the Kastela Bay and the Split Canal at the foot of the Mosor Mountains, 25 km from the airport. The city has good small pebble beaches, and its historic center is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. From the side of the sea the city is surrounded by an archipelago of islands: Brač, Solta, Drvenik, and behind them - Hvar, Vis, Bishovo.
Modern buildings of glass and concrete adjoin here with houses of the 15th and 19th centuries, and fashionable boutiques showcase the ancient city square.

How to get to Split
Split International Airport is 25 km from the city center and accepts flights from many cities of the world, including Moscow (Aeroflot, Malev, Austrian Airlines) .The airport is connected to the city by an excellent motorway and regular bus service .Planning a trip, it is worth considering that at the beginning of the season a direct flight from Moscow to Split can be quite expensive, since it is only performed by regular flights of these airlines, the charter program of flights to Split starts at the end of May .Other airlines begin to operate flights in this direction much later, then at the market there are offers regarding cheap tickets .Those who do not like to fly can get to Split and as follows: by train to Zagreb (for example, from the border station Chop), then by bus .

The city is connected by national sea ferry lines with the cities of Rijeka and Dubrovnik, with the islands of Brač, Hvar, Solta, Vis, Korcula and Lastovo; as well as international ferries with the Italian cities of Ancona, Venice and Pescara.
At 20 km from the city, on the way to Trogir, there is an international airport. Split is the southernmost point of the national Croatian railway network, but the line to Split is not electrified and is used very little.

Beaches of Split

Entertainment, excursions and attractions Split
The main attraction here is Diocletian's palace, a quadrangular mini-city, separated from the rest of Split by high walls and extremely rich in monuments of ancient architecture. The southern wall of the palace goes to the embankment, the northern wall to the Strossmayer Park, the east to the city market, and the western wall to the People's Square and the old town around it. Inside the palace there are:
- Cathedral of St. Dué (Domnia) - an octagonal cathedral with a high bell tower, built in the early Middle Ages on the site of the mausoleum of Diocletian. The Holy Spirit (Domnius) was a bishop tortured in Split during the persecution of Christians under Diocletian, considered the patron saint of Split. In the cathedral there is an altar with relief images of the authorship of the famous Yura Dalmatinats. From the bell tower there is a magnificent view of Split and the city harbor.
- Peristyle - one of the few interior palace buildings that have survived from Roman times. Quadrangular hall in the open air, surrounded by marble columns. The Romans used it for ceremonies.
- The lobby is a round room, topped with a dome. Conducted in the undisturbed private quarters of the emperor.
- Temple of Jupiter - a beautifully preserved Roman temple, remade in the early Middle Ages in the Christian.
Also worth visiting are the ruins of the Roman Salon in the outskirts of the city: there you can see a large amphitheater, the ruins of temples, palaces and villas. The Gripe Fortress, the 15th century Town Hall on Narodnaya Ploshchad (now it houses the Ethnographic Museum), the monument to Gregory Ninsky at the North entrance to the Diocletian's Palace.
