The entire network of Germany is covered by a network of motorways (or autobahns) with a total length of 12.700 km. This network is considered the third largest nationwide network of roads in the world.

Many sections of motorways in Germany are modern and contain three lanes in addition to the emergency lane. Some sections remained unchanged with two lanes and without an emergency strip. German autobahns are one of the few public roads in the world where there are no speed limits for cars and motorcycles (the recommended speed is 130 km / h).

Rigid speed limits on the autobahns of Germany are superimposed on some vehicles: buses carrying standing passengers, motorcycles with trailers - 60 km / h, vehicles with a maximum permissible mass of more than 3, 5 tons (excluding cars), cars and trucks with trailers, buses - 80km / h.
