How to get to Piraeus?
Buses No. 40 and No. 49 run between central Athens and Piraeus (the fare is 0.5 euros) 24 hours a day. Bus number X96 performs regular routes between Piraeus and Athens airport (cost 3.2 EUR, travel time 90 minutes). The airport can also be reached by metro (6 euros). The prices are shown in April 2011

The climate is Mediterranean with lots of sunny days throughout the year. Rains are most likely in the period from November to April because of the proximity of Piraeus to Mount Parnita.

Shops and restaurants
Cafes and shops are located along the harbor, near the cruise terminal, as well as near the metro. The central avenues of Piraeus - Iroon Polytechneiou and Grigoriou Labraki are considered large shopping areas.
Piraeus is famous for its wide variety of taverns and restaurants famous for its cuisine. Most of them specialize in seafood and concentrated in the harbors of Mikrolimano and Piraiki.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Piraeus
Among the archaeological sites of Piraeus, the ancient gate of the port and part of the fortifications built during the Peloponnesian War are remarkable, preserved in good condition to our time. The ruins of the ancient city, located in the basement of the cathedral Agia Triada and the ancient theater Zea next to the archaeological museum. In the archaeological museum collected an extensive collection of antique artifacts found during excavations in Piraeus, mainly in the embankment.
Kastella is considered one of the most attractive areas of the city with neoclassical-style mansions. From the hills of Castella you can enjoy a panoramic view of Athens and the Saronic Gulf. One of the popular events in Piraeus is the Ecocinema Film Festival, which takes place every February. In summer Piraeus meets the sea festival and the festival "Rock Wave". And the festival "The Way of Three Kings" marks the beginning of the carnival with all the ensuing consequences - costumed shows and performances.
