On arrival

Most tourists come to India by plane or by train. Upon arrival, you will be asked to declare the technique (PCs and laptops).

If you travel by train, do not leave your bags unattended. After the terrorist attack in Mumbai, train stations and trains have introduced increased security measures: if you leave your luggage unattended for at least a minute, the guards can then ask you to stand next to the bags throughout the trip.

Money is better to import into India in EUR or dollars (the most common currency) and exchange in banks or official exchange offices. Money can also be exchanged at the airport, but there the exchange rate will be unprofitable.

You can take with you a bank card: such payment systems as Visa and Master Card are accepted in almost all large Indian cities. When going to the countryside, always take cash with you.

Taxi

In India it is possible to travel on rickshaws (a carriage that the driver pulls on a bicycle), by taxi or by public transport (buses, trains).

Taxis are public and private, and their parking lots are usually in different places. The taxi drivers rarely use the counter and set their own price: in this case, you can also bargain.

At airports and railway stations there are prepaid offices where the cost of traveling on popular tourist routes is posted, and where you can book a taxi. You will be given a check about payment, which you then need to give to the driver. There is also a tourist taxi: it can be called directly to the hotel; the fare in it is fixed, and bargaining is meaningless.

In the mountains and at large stretches there are shared-taxis (from the English "shared"), which can hold up to 13 people and go as they fill. When traveling in such a taxi, make sure that the driver firmly tied all your luggage to the roof.

When traveling in India by a large company and over considerable distances, it will be more profitable for you to book a taxi. Prepare to pay in advance (the minimum mileage in India is about 300 km: if you drove a taxi less, you still have to pay the minimum amount for 300 km), as well as the presence of a taxi in the air conditioner. Record the meter readings at the beginning of the trip. During the trip, you are obliged to give the driver money only for gasoline, but it's a good idea to treat the taxi driver to dinner.

They stole it, they stole it!

Outside the hotel, store money and documents in a small bag under your clothes or around your neck. In the hotel, use the safe or close things in a suitcase. Take a padlock from the house: you will close the doors in Indian hotels, and also chain your bag under the bench in the train (so do the locals).

If you have stolen a passport, contact one of the branches of the Russian consulate in India. If the ticket is lost or stolen, you can always restore it by writing a statement about the loss of the ticket and presenting your passport at the airline's representative office.
