The port city of Chennai (formerly Madras) was founded as an outpost of Britain on the peninsula, so its architecture is strongly influenced by the British colonial style. Chennai is divided into five districts. In Greater Chennai, in addition to the city itself, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur are also included. The main industrial enterprises are located in the north of the city, business districts are concentrated in the center. In the south are residential quarters, as well as offices of numerous IT companies.

How to get
Chennai International Airport is the third busiest in India. Flights from abroad are accepted by terminal Anna, internal terminals are Kamraj. Are on the same road, 150 m from each other.
In each terminal of the airport you can easily find a taxi, as a rule, the fare to the center in them is fixed (~ 450 INR). Another option to get to the city is by train from Tirisulam station (during peak hours it is better to buy tickets only in the first class).

Transport
In Chennai, there are big problems with traffic and traffic jams. Therefore, one of the most convenient ways to travel around the city is the metro. In Chennai, there are four branches of the underground, which also go beyond the city.
Another less popular mode of transport is buses, tuk-tuk (10 INR per km) or taxi (150 INR for the first 5 km, then for each 10 INR km).
Beaches Chennai
The 12-kilometer Marina Beach is one of the longest in the world. This place is very popular with local people, especially on weekends, holidays or in the summer, when a suffocating heat is set in the city. Unfortunately, this is also one of the dirtiest beaches. However, it is here that you can see real India - how the fishermen are engaged in their ancient craft, and families with friends arrange picnics. Swim here is not worth it, as it is not worth to appear on the beach later than 22:00.
Not far from the city there are also two pretty beaches for picnics and walks - Eliot's Beach and Breezy Beach.

Entertainment, sightseeing and sightseeing Chennai
When you arrive in India, take some time to this charming town. Relatively young, Chennai grew out of a small fishing village, became the industrial and business center of India. The hand to the development of urban infrastructure was made by the Dutch, Portuguese, and, of course, the British, so there are enough sights.
About the colonial history of the city is evidenced by the Catholic churches and cathedrals decorating Chennai .Cathedral Sv .Foma is a vivid example of that .One of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ converted here from 52 AD, but was pierced by enemies with a spear on a hill where he was hiding with followers .Later the hill was called Mount Sv .Thomas, and on the grave of the Holy Church was built, on the bow where so many famous people like Marco Polo came and even Sv .Francis .The cathedral will surprise you with a neo-gothic style that stands out against the background of the traditional architecture of India .To date, Cathedral St. .Thomas is the center of the pilgrimage of Christians of India and the national shrine .
In the city there is the Church of St. Mary, which is the first Anglican religious building in India, the Church of St. Andrew, modeled after the example of the Church of St. Martin in Trafalgar Square in England, and finally the Luz Church, built by the Portuguese in the 12th century. Legend has it that sailors who conquered the shores of India in a storm saw a wonderful light that led them to the shore. On this site was erected a church with a wonderful name "loz" or "light" in Portuguese.
In Chennai, as in any other city in India, there are also traditional temples. The main attraction of the city is the Kapaleeswarar temple, which is a fine example of the Dravidian temple architecture. This sanctuary of the goddess Shiva, revered here as Kapalisvarar, is not less than a thousand years old. To date, the Temple is the center of religious holidays.
Not far from the city, on the shore of the Bay of Bengal, is a huge temple complex Mahabalipuram with two dozen ancient temples, as well as famous rock bas-reliefs. To the southwest of Chennai is the famous pilgrimage center of Madurai with the colossal temple of the goddess Menaksha. Especially popular among tourists is the Government Museum Chennai, the oldest and largest museum in India. Here exhibited the best collection of Roman antiquities, weapons and armor, unique finds dating from the second century BC and perfectly preserved bronze items. In addition, the exposition of the museum is dedicated to botany and numismatics, zoology and sculpture.
In Chennai, a lot of interesting parks, which should not be forgotten when choosing a tourist itinerary. Firstly, it is a park of deer, where rare Indian antelopes are represented. Secondly, a park of snakes. Here you will find rare species of reptiles, and nearby there is a children's park with attractions and playgrounds. And, finally, a crocodile farm, inhabited by thousands of Indian and African crocodiles of different shapes and sizes.
It is also worth visiting the Madras Musical Academy and the International Theosophical Center named after. Blavatsky with a beautiful park.
