Tehran and Moscow intend to sign a "memorandum of mutual understanding" in the near future, which will be the first step towards establishing a visa-free regime between countries.
Currently, the relevant preparatory work is carried out by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Iran and Russia. According to the forecasts of the Ambassador of Iran to the RF Mehdi Sanaa, an agreement on mutual understanding must be signed during 2015. While Russians still need a visa when traveling to Iran, which can be obtained at the Consular Section in Moscow or at any airport upon arrival.
Currently, the visa-free stay of tourists on the territory of Iran is allowed only on the island of Kish or in the case of staying in the country for no more than 3 days.
