Entertainment, excursions and attractions Delft
Delft is a city famous all over the world for its many historical monuments, most of which were created in the 16th and 17th centuries, picturesque canals reflecting old buildings, and a white and blue tile adorning all the fireplaces and stoves in the palaces of the Russian emperors. @
One of the main attractions of the city is the palace of Prinsenhof (Prinsenhof). The museum, whose collection includes not only paintings of masters of the 16th and 17th centuries, but also collections of porcelain and silver, once housed the monastery, and then the residence of Prince William I of Orange during his struggle against Spain.
Near the palace there is a gothic 75 meter old church (Oude Kerk), built at the end of the 13th century on the site of the wooden church of St. Bartholomew .The Old Church is built on the principle of a basilica in the Gothic style with unforgettable stained glass windows of Jupa Nyolos, underwent numerous alterations and is known for its tower, which bends a couple of meters from the vertical .In the 17th - 19th centuries, three powerful organs were installed in the church, and the Bellon bell was placed on the bell tower .Today in the Old Church there are divine services and concerts of organ music .
Market Square
At the Market Square is another Gothic basilica, built in the 14th century - the New Church (De Nieuwe Kerk). The church is the burial vault of members of the Oran dynasty. Under the mausoleum of Wilhelm I of Orange, buried in 1584, is the crypt of the entire royal family. In addition, one of the most famous citizens of Delft, Hugo Grotius, is buried in the church, an epitaph under the marble portrait of which reads: "The Miracle of Europe, the Blessed Sage". The church is open to visitors, it functions both as a religious building and as a museum.
The Market Square is also home to the Town Hall, built in the 17th century in the style of the Netherlands renaissance. The town hall was built on the site of a count's prison in the Middle Ages, since then only one tower has survived. Formerly, the building housed the Guild of Gold and Silver Jewelers and the Apothecary Guild, now it is, above all, a historical place where the residents of Delft marry.
