The story of Alesund is a classic example of that there is no thin without good: if not for the devastating fire of 1904, he would not have become the epitome of the then popular style of art nouveau: bright, extraordinary and slightly fairy. Now Alesund is the most beautiful city in the country according to the Norwegians, as well as the magazine The Times. Its popularity is also due to its location: through the city lies the path to the Geirangerfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
