Bucharest is the capital of Romania, a major commercial and cultural center of the country. Here are some of the best museums in the Balkans, but the greatest interest for tourists is the historic part of the city. There is the Government House, which was conceived as the largest building in the world (by area it is second only to the Pentagon in the US), the Palace of Justice, the Presidential Palace, the Royal Palace, which now houses the Art Museum of Romania, as well as the Arc de Triomphe and the National Bank building.

How to get to Bucharest
By plane:
Most international and domestic flights take the airport Henri Coandă, located in Otopeni, 18 km north of the city center. Here is a major carrier of Romania, the company Tarom. Almost all services at the airport are at least twice as expensive as in the city, the same applies to the exchange of money. It is better for the first time to use the services of an ATM, withdraw some cash, and exchange the remaining money in the city.
A much smaller airport Aurel Vlaicu is 4-6 km from the city and is used for business departures, charter flights or low cost carriers: BlueAir, WizzAir and Germanwings. There are only 3 landings, and during the season there are a lot of tourists (ie, queues) - in a word, this is not the most comfortable Balkan airport.
From Henri Candă airport you can reach the city center by train, bus or taxi:
- the train ticket for Henri Coandă Expres can be purchased inside the airport, at the CFR counter, the fare 6 RON, on the way 40-50 minutes. The station is 2 km from the airport, shuttles run to it, the fare is included in the price of the train ticket. Working hours: 6: 00-23: 00.
- buses 780 and 783 run between the airport and the main railway station in Bucharest, Gara de Nord. Working hours: 5: 15-23: 00, fare 3, 5 RON. Tickets can be purchased only at a stop, in the salon - do not forget to compost.
- for passengers of night flights the only way to get to the city - on the official taxi Fly Taxi. The fare is 3, 5 RON per km. Taxi drivers are winding up tourists, and instead of putting ~ 50 RON for the whole trip, they usually take about 100 RON (25 EUR).
It is much easier to get to the center from the Aurel Vlaicu airport located within the city. The taxi will cost 1, 5 RON per km (on average to the center not more than 10 km, if the meter shows 25 km - the tourist is likely to "wind"); buses 131 and 301 run to Piaţa Romană; bus number 205 - to the Gara de Nord station. Bus tickets are sold at the bus stop, not the driver.
By train:
Bucharest is associated with several major cities in Europe: Belgrade, Budapest, Kiev, Sofia, Vienna, Venice, Thessaloniki, Istanbul, Moscow; and about 41 cities in Romania. Most international trains leave from Gara de Nord station; trains to the Black Sea coast use the Gara de Est-Obor, Băneasa or Gara de Nord stations.
Other stations, Basarab, Progresul and Republica, are only used for local flights.
By Bus:
Bucharest is connected by regular bus services with Chisinau (en route 12 hours, 11 EUR, departure from the station Filaret) and Turkish cities (Ortadoğu Tur, 318 7538, Str Gară de Nord 6-8, Troy, 318 7920, Piaţa Gară de Nord 2 Toros, 233 1898, Calea Griviţei 134-136). Each company sends at least one bus a day, en route from 12 hours, fare 37, 5 EUR.
In addition, in Bucharest is the company Eurolines (phone: 316 3661, Str Buzeşti 44, round the clock), which sends its buses to many cities in Eastern Europe. Fare: to Athens (80 EUR, 22 hours), Berlin (115 EUR), Rome (115 EUR), Vienna (65 EUR), Paris (125 EUR, three times a week).
Double T (Tel: 313 3642, Calea Victoriei 2) also sends buses to Europe - to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Spain. For example, a ticket for the flight Bucharest - Munich will cost 77 EUR.

Transport Bucharest
The city transport of Bucharest is represented by modern buses, trolleybuses, trams and metro (three lines). Magnetic cards on the subway are sold in kiosks at the entrance. The subway operates from 5:00 to 23:30. The names of Bucharest metro stations are not always clearly visible - they are usually written on a separate plate and placed quite inconveniently.
All taxis, as a rule, are equipped with counters - if they are not available, then the price should be agreed in advance. The state taxi can be distinguished by "checkers" on its side. Private cabs are marked with the letters "R" and "RO" on the roof. They work without counters and are more expensive, but they are easier to catch. The fare for a taxi is ~ 1, 5 RON per km.
Moving around the city on your own car is not a good idea. The traffic in the city is crazy: a lot of streets with one-way traffic, frenzied traffic during rush hours, parking problems, absolute non-compliance with Romanian rates and so on, other, etc.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Bucharest
Bucharest in Romanian means "City of Joy", without false modesty, it is. The city really is a real find for curious tourists, not only because of its rich history, interlacing architectural styles, a lot of magnificent monuments and museums, but also an unforgettable atmosphere, charming nature and an unusually interesting culture.
Old Town
With what it is necessary to begin acquaintance with the city? Of course, with the oldest and therefore most attractive part of Bucharest. Here you can see the grand palace of Parliament, admire the Arc de Triomphe, see the historical Revolution Square.
The Palace of Parliament in Bucharest is famous for its scale .The eclectic style building of 6,000 rooms is the second largest in the area after the Pentagon, completely constructed of materials produced in Romania .It is said that during construction the demand for marble was so great that the monuments had to be made from other materials .This unjustified desire for gigantism had its devastating consequences, because in order to make room for the construction of the giant, it was necessary to raze part of the historic district of the city .
It will be pleasantly surprised by the Arc de Triomphe erected here in 1920 in honor of the courage of Romanian soldiers in the First World War. The arch of devil granite is decorated with sculptures created by Romanian artists. Completely enjoying the exterior grace of the arch, do not forget to climb up the inner staircase and admire the picturesque panorama of the city.
Take a walk to the Plaza of the Revolution, where the Romanian statesman and political figure Nicolae Ceausescu, the last general secretary of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, experienced the last minutes of power .Historical events are not the only thing that glorified the area .First of all, this place is full of unique historical monuments .Here is the Royal Palace, once served as the residence of the Romanian monarchs, now it houses the Romanian National Museum of Art, a little to the south you can see the small Orthodox Church of Kretsulesku from red brick with perfectly preserved frescoes of the famous Romanian artist George Tattaresku .
Gardens and parks of Bucharest
In the capital of Romania, noisy shopping streets and picturesque buildings harmoniously coexist with cozy cafes, picturesque parks and landscaped gardens. So, Kismigui Garden, perhaps, is one of the most beautiful and oldest in Bucharest. Designed by a German landscape architect in 1845, it was studded with exotic trees from Vienna, plants from the Romanian mountains. Today it is a great place to relax, where you can forget about the city bustle in the shade of trees, ride a boat, take a walk along winding paths, breathing in the spicy scent of flowers.
Park Gerastrau is not inferior to the garden of Kismigui in beauty. There are plenty of opportunities to have a good time: rent a boat, play tennis, visit the fairground or visit the Village Museum.
Museums of the city
Speaking of museums .In Bucharest, they have enough .It is worth to visit the Museum of the Romanian Peasantry, opened in 1906 .Here you can get acquainted with the culture and traditions of the country .Only one collection of ceramics has more than 18,000 items, is it worth talking about a collection of costumes, many of which date back to the 19th century and give a complete picture of the life, everyday life and traditions of Romanians?.Here you can see a wooden peasant house .Having inspected all the masterpieces of the Romanian folk art, you will certainly want to buy yourself a souvenir to remember - the museum has a special shop where the works of Romanian masters are represented, including textiles .
The Museum of Arts of Romania unites both works of Romanian and European artists. In the halls of the museum there are paintings of such masters as Gregorescu and Amana, sculptures of the early Brancusi. In the gallery of European art exhibited little-known paintings of El Greco, Monet, and Rembrandt, here Renoir, Cezanne and Rubens.
In addition, in Bucharest, you can visit the National Historical Museum in the building of the Palace of the Post (1889), the National Museum of Cotroceni, the Village Museum (17 hectares, one of the world's first ethnographic open-air museums) on Lake Herestrau, Geological Museum, Museum of Technology , Museum of the History of Nature "Grigore Antippa", etc.
Suburb of Bucharest
No less picturesque is the suburb of Bucharest. Here you can find many interesting monasteries and palaces, hear numerous legends and visit the graves of the Count of Dracula. Not far from the capital are Biserika-Domnasca ("Church of the Lord") and the monastery of Courta de Arges in the same city.
Snagov Monastery is located on a small island in the middle of the island and is a place of pilgrimage for tourists, because it is here that the decapitated body of Vlad III Tepes is buried .You will be told many mysterious stories about the failures that haunted the monastery after the death of Vlad Tepes .It burned the Turks, demolished the hurricane, tried to destroy the earthquake, to the general joy of the monastery survived and now is a fairly interesting and pleasant-looking building .In general, he is famous not only for the grave of the world-famous vampire, which can only be recognized from the image of Vlad, but also the largest in South Romania collection of medieval paintings .The bell tower and the church, like the oldest buildings of the monastery, preserved unique frescoes depicting Romanian rulers and founders of the monastery .
