Today, Caracas is a dynamic and modern city, the economic center of the country (alas, going "complete" with all the problems of modern megacities, especially high crime). There are more restaurants per capita here than in any other Latin American city.

Transport of Caracas

In Caracas - a modern and inexpensive metro, which is sometimes more popular than cars: clean cars with air conditioning saved from the exhausting heat of more than one tourist. As for taxis, they are usually equipped with counters, although drivers use them very reluctantly, preferring to negotiate the fare in advance.

From 8 pm taxi fares double. Foreign tourists are sometimes frankly cheated by including a counter and driving to their destination along the longest path. Therefore, it is always worthwhile to check with the hotel employees about the distance of the trip and the approximate prices.

Shopping: shops

The Sabana-Grande street, closed to transport, is famous for its many shops, shops with souvenirs and restaurants. Along the whole street there are tables for games - Venezuelans, from small to large, adore chess and dominoes.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Caracas

Most of the attractions of Caracas are concentrated in the old part of the city - El Centro. A huge statue of the liberator of Venezuela rises in the central square, named after him.

Plaza de Bolivar is rich in historical monuments: there is the Caracas Museum, the Cathedral of the Caracas, the Sacro de Caracas Museum with an extensive collection of religious art items and Casa Amarilla. Just in a block from the square stands the Casa Natal de Simon Bolivar, a large colonial house, it is also the house-museum of El Libertador.

Other attractions: the Pantheon Nacional, the El Capitolio Nacional complex, the Church of Iglesia de San Francisco, the Museum of Contemporary Art (in which both the best Venetian artists and the paintings of Miro, Chagall, Leger and Picasso are represented), the Museum of Colonial Art and Transport Museum.

In Los Cabobos Park there are three museums and two cultural centers - the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum, the Terreso Carrena Theater (the third largest in Latin America), the Museo del Arte Contemporaneo and the Museo de Los Ninhos (Children's Museum ).

Quite close to the city is Avila National Park, which can be reached by climbing to the top of the mountain along hiking trails or in a convenient red teleferico trailer, a cable car. Photo of Caracas (6)
