The national currency of Vietnam - dong - is denoted as VND or đ (a small Vietnamese letter d, with a high vertical line crossed at the top of the horizontal line) and is an inconvertible currency. Dong is formally 10 hao and 100 sous, but these small Vietnamese money is not issued.

Cash in Vietnam is issued in banknotes and coins. Banknotes with denominations of 500,000, 200,000, 100,000, 50,000, 20,000, 10,000, 5,000, 2,000, 1,000, 500, 200 and 100 dong are in circulation. On the front side of the banknotes is a portrait of Ho Chi Minh, the first president of Vietnam and on the reverse sides there are different pictures.

Vietnamese coins have the following advantages: 5 000, 2 000, 1 000, 500 and 200 dong.
