Argentine tango is a social dance and musical genre that originated in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay). In the US, he is often confused with ballroom tango, although in fact he is only his later branch.

Argentine tango consists of various styles that have long developed in different regions of Argentina and Uruguay. Although true forms of tango were developed in these two countries, one should not forget about the impact that Europe, North America, Spain and Cuba had on it.

In order to see the national Argentine dance in all its splendor, one should direct the stops towards one of the many "milongas". This is a small institution, where they come to dance tango, skip a glass and chat with friends, such cafes with a dance bias. Dancers usually gather there after noon (from 2:00 to 20:00) or at night (from 2 nights to 5-6 in the morning). Famous milongas: Confiteria Ideal, Salon Canning, El Beso and Porteno y Bailarin. In all milongas, you can take a lesson in tango, depending on the teacher, it will cost from 50 to 400 ARS per hour.

Tango festival

Buenos Aires is not only one of the most romantic cities in the world and the capital of Argentina, but also the venue of the Tango Festival, which is simultaneously and the World Tango Championship.

The festival is held, as a rule, in August and about 500 artists from different parts of the world take part in its opening. Various concerts and shows are held on all the stages of the Argentine capital - in theaters, cultural centers, famous bars and restaurants.

The competitive program is conducted in two categories:

  • Salon Tango (Tango de salón)
  • stage tango (Tango show).

Salon tango expresses the very history of the creation of dance. For this kind of program the jury is very demanding, dancers are allowed to move only within the embrace. Scenic tango allows partners more free movements, here you can show your creative expression in dance, and also movements and elements from other dances and acrobatic stunts are allowed.

To see the national Argentine dance in all its splendor, you should direct your feet towards one of the many "milongas".

In addition to the competitive program, during the Festival in Buenos Aires there are various exhibitions and fairs that are more or less connected with the famous dance.

During the championship days throughout the city, tango lessons for beginners are conducted, famous dancers and singers perform, there are numerous "milongas", that is, places where they are going to dance. On the "milongas" there is a spirit of tangomania, embracing the souls and bodies of all guests, there are no indifferent.

As a rule, women dress very elegant and fitting dresses with a large neckline and a high cut, and men shine with costumes of individual tailoring and without fail in a tie.
