Most of the island of Mlet (Mlet) is a carefully protected nature reserve. There are many quiet walking paths, beautiful beaches and small bays, kayaks and kayaks come here, surfing and fishing are good, the underwater world has very, very much this. The length of the island is about 48 km, it can be traveled by car, bicycle or even on an ass.

A bit of history
Once upon a time, in ancient times, the nymph Calypso held in her cave that on the island of Mljet, Odyssey for 7 years .Perhaps it helped her in this her spell, or the natural mind, or something else ... But anyone who has visited this island will say with confidence that Odysseus was probably fascinated not so much by the nymph as by the island itself .Indeed, not a single person will be left indifferent by the carefully trimmed greenhouses typical for the villages of this island, picturesque bays with a quaintly rugged coastline, overhanging cliffs .
Beaches of Mljet
The beaches of Mljet are good. The most popular are two sandy (quite a rare rarity for Croatia) beach: Great Saplunara and Small Saplunara in the town of Saplanara. In half an hour walk from them, in a secluded cove? Surrounded by pine trees, is the beach of Blace Bay. Because of the isolation, this beach was chosen by nudists. Sunbathing and swimming on the island can not only be on the beach, very attractive beaches around both internal lakes, especially since the water in them is usually several degrees warmer than in the sea - this is of significant importance at the beginning and at the end of the season.

Of the official hotels on the island, only one, Odisej .Due to the fact that in Croatia, very high demands are placed on hotels, the actual level of the hotel significantly exceeds its 3 *, sometimes offering services that are not available in all more "star" hotels: laundry, library, wellness center, ATV rental and cars - that's their incomplete list .Perhaps accommodation on the island in the private sector, it will be comfortable and cheap, but book, as, indeed, the hotel, it is necessary in advance, for which there are several services .On the same services, you can book a transfer from the airport to the selected villa on the island .
Food can be found in numerous local restaurants: not only is it cheap, but also at the very edge of the sea.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Mljet
In the north-western part of the island there is a national park, founded in 1960 .Its main attractions are two salt lakes, Big and Small .Unique species of animals and birds live on their shores, a lot of karst caves that are a subject of interest and professionals, and fans of speleology, untouched peaceful nature - here is an incomplete list of what is on the island the goal of travelers from around the world .Today the ecosystem of the island functions in a balanced way, but it has had to survive two disasters .The reason for the first was the Benedictine monks who connected the Great Lake to the sea .Because of this, the salinization of the original fresh lake has occurred with irreversible consequences for lake and lake flora and fauna .The second occurred in the Middle Ages, when a lot of mongooses were brought to the island to fight the numerous snakes .The animals cut not only the number of snakes, but also the number of species of birds, eating their eggs .Now the consequences of both disasters were flattened, and the mongooses became full citizens and one of the park's attractions .
In the middle of the Big Lake there is the island of Sv .Mary, who is entirely occupied by the Benedictine monastery, founded in the 12th century .On this same island there is a tiny church of St. Mary .This is perhaps the most interesting historical sites of the island, very picturesque and attractive .In the villages of the island you can also find medieval churches, carefully kept by residents .The Bay of Poláč is attractive to the well-preserved early Christian basilica built in the 5th century, no less interesting is the palace of the Roman Empire (the second century AD) .The Bay of Poláč is the largest harbor on Mljet, from here most of the excursions to the national park begin (the cost of excursions is, on average, 45 EUR, this includes the excursion itself and transfer to the island by boat) .
Diving and outdoor activities
For some reason, around the island, many ships sank at different times. This attracts professional divers on Mljet. Ancient ships carry a lot of surprises, and possibly treasures ... In any case, diving is fraught with risk: half-scattered skeletons of ships can cause injury, and under water this is especially dangerous.
In addition to diving, the island has the opportunity to do windsurfing, canoeing, cycling or simply stroll along the shady nature trails.
