Delhi (or New Delhi) is a huge, noisy, eclectic, dirty and very green city. Among the historical monuments of the capital, the famous Red Fort with its vast palace complex of the Mughal era and the "colorful palace" of the Rang-Mahal are especially prominent.

How to get

By plane

Indira Gandhi International Airport is India's busiest airport that accepts flights from around the world.

To get from the airport to the city you can by metro - from 5 am to 11 pm every 20 minutes there is a special train, the road to Delhi on it also takes 20 minutes. A trip to one end will cost you 80 rupees. In addition, public buses run from the airport - they will have to pay 50 rupees for tickets (plus 25 for large luggage), and the journey to the city will take about an hour.

Search airfares in Delhi

By bus

Delhi arrives from Kathmandu, Chitwan (the road takes about one and a half days on any of them) and practically from any city in India.

Buses in India, even long-distance, leave much to be desired and are usually much less comfortable than trains, but you can not avoid traveling to them if you want to travel to one of the cities in the mountains.

By train

In Delhi there are four major stations - New Delhi railway station, located in the city center, Purani Dilli, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar.

At any of these stations you can be approached by people offering assistance - better ignore them. And if you still need help, contact only police officers and station employees.

The climate of Delhi is

Delhi March 1, Sunday

Delhi weather forecast for 10 days

Delhi combines the heat of Rajasthani deserts with the cold climate of the Himalayas. From April to October, the temperature often rises above + 40 ° C, monsoon rains flood the city in July and August.

In winter (especially in December and January), the temperature may drop to zero. The city at this time covers a thick fog, due to which many flights are canceled. In February-April and September-November the climate is pleasant enough, the temperature keeps at around +20 ... 30 ° C.

Transport

Metro

Metro is one of the most convenient, fastest and cheapest ways to travel around Delhi. The city has already built six branches, so that it can deliver you almost anywhere. A trip by subway can cost between Rs 8 and Rs 30 - depending on where and from where you are heading. When buying a ticket, keep in mind that it is valid only for the station where you sit in the subway - if you buy two at once, you can not go back on the second.

In addition, you can buy a tourist card that allows you to go by subway as many as you like - there are such cards 100 rupees for one day or 250 rupees for three days.

Buses

You can reach any part of the city by bus. Tickets for them cost even less than on the subway - 5-15 rupees, however, and it's usually less convenient to travel to them - during peak hours around the city, terrible traffic jams, and huge crowds of people crowd into each bus.

There are two buses in Delhi - private and public. The state is red and green. In summer, the difference between them is simply huge, because the reds have air conditioners.

At bus stops there are no schedules or even tablets with the numbers of buses arriving there, so that any information you can get only from the surrounding people. But at least the lack of schedules is not so much a problem, rarely when the right bus has to wait longer than 15-20 minutes.

Delhi Cuisine

Maybe in Delhi and stuffy, too crowded, and local roads do not scare only suicides - you will forget about all these shortcomings as soon as you go to a restaurant. In the whole country (and all over the world too) there is no more city where you could find such a good Indian cuisine. However, not only restaurants in Delhi are good - the whole city is filled with many tents and counters, where you will be offered absolutely amazing dishes right on the street.

However, do not be tempted by spicy smells and appetizing kind of street food right away - before you buy something, you should pay attention to how hygienic the conditions of storage and cooking are.

In Delhi, there are even special groups of gourmets, consisting of both locals and tourists, who regularly make trips to various restaurants to ensure an excellent dinner or to find something new.

Chaath is one of the dishes that you should definitely try in Delhi. This is one of the snacks that are sold most often in trays right on the street. She represents herself such pies made of puff pastry, stuffed with potatoes or lentils and cooked deep-fried. From above they are watered with yoghurt, chutney and a special mixture of seasonings. It is best to buy a tea in the city center, next to the Bengali market. There are a lot of small restaurants specializing in this dish - and the best of them consider an institution called Nathu.

Magic Delhi

Chandy Chowk Market

The old town is famous for its markets and bazaars, the most popular of which is the market Chandy Chowk .This market was another innovation of Shah Jahan, whose daughter liked to make purchases here .Perhaps, it is fashionable to feel the true Indian exotics here: the crush and noise intertwine with the flavors of Indian cuisine, the glitter of silver and gold .Previously, the market shared the channels, now it is a labyrinth of narrow streets where you can buy anything you like .Here is the Kinati Bazaar, where gold and silver products are traded, as well as a variety of wooden souvenirs .

Bazaar Naya - a paradise for lovers of spices, in the market at wholesale prices you can buy fruits and sweets.

Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Delhi

The chaos of the megalopolis and the noise of cars crowding the city do not distract curious tourists from the well-preserved and dilapidated architectural masterpieces, monuments and museums of Delhi .Two worlds harmoniously coexist in the city - old and new .Economically developed New Delhi with actively developing shopping centers, automobile industry, luxury and wealth of mansions and hotels complements the Old City, which for a long time is the capital of the Islamic world with numerous mosques, bustling bazaars, narrow and dirty streets, palaces and other monuments included in the UNESCO World Heritage List .For more information, visit Delhi's website:.
