Tulum is an amazing place on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, which consists of three parts: the ruins of the old Mayan city - the main "token" of these places, the Indian village of Tulum Pueblo and the tourist and entertainment zone that stretches along the road and the Caribbean for several kilometers. The town itself is small (15 thousand inhabitants) and nothing particularly noteworthy, except for the monuments of antiquity. But hotels and beaches here are some of the best in Mexico.

How to get
Tulum can be reached from Cancun or from Playa del Carmen. Approximately every hour from the station in Cancun is a bus, on it you will spend about 2 hours (135 km) and 80-100 pesos. You can also take a rural van ("collectivo" van) for 50 pesos. On the way, buses make stops in archaeological parks.
If you want to see the ruins of the ancient city, you need to get off at the first stop in Tulum - at the crossroads, from where the road starts to the ruins of 1, 5 km long. Another option is to book a taxi for 40-50 dollars or rent a car. From Playa del Carmen you can also take a bus (60 pesos) or collectively (40 pesos).

Transport
To travel around Tulum, you can take a taxi or rent a car, but I must say that the town is so small that it's easier and more fun to walk or rent a bicycle (80 pesos a day), almost everyone goes there-both local and tourists.
Beaches of Tulum
Beaches in Tulum are excellent and generally considered the best in Mexico: tropical nature, steep cliffs, fine white sand, the purest turquoise water and amazing beauty of the underwater world, for which, in fact, these places are loved by divers. Here, romance, exotics, archeology and village life were combined - an excellent cocktail was created!
Shopping and shopping
Almost all shops, souvenir shops, department stores and supermarkets are located along the main street of the city - Avenida Tulum. With the local you have to bargain (if Spanish know - it will), the price can be knocked down in two, and even two and a half times, especially if you buy a lot in one store. The Indians surrender after a couple of minutes, the Mexicans stand to the death and with an offended look can surrender a little.
All the necessary products you can buy in the supermarket "Super San Francisco Food Mart", there are also refrigerated food storage chambers - you will always have cool drinks and food on the beach.
Tulum hotels
Despite the fact that the town is small, tourism is organized by all 200%, and the hotels here are huge. Basically they are all small (from 5 to 20 rooms) and very cozy - in general, almost home conditions. Almost all hotels are located on the coast with a chic ocean view, but there are hotels and in the city itself - close to restaurants and entertainment venues. Prices start at $ 20 per day (in private villas and bungalows), the average price of hotels is 80-100 dollars for a double room.

Kitchen and restaurants
The cuisine in Tulum, mostly Mexican, but in general - whatever you want. The food is perfectly organized in hotels, but if you want, you can (and you need) to look into the local restaurants. By the way, in the city catering is much cheaper than in the resort area - for 100 pesos (about 230 rubles) you can eat normally.
One of the best restaurants of Mexican cuisine is Don Cafetos, in Mezzanine you can taste Thai cuisine on a steep cliff 12 meters high, and for Italian dishes it is better to go to Posada Margherita. But for the best ice cream and desserts, seasoned tourists are unanimously sent to "Panna e Cioccolato. In El Asadero, excellent dishes on open fire - cook right before your eyes.
In the evening, it's time to visit the local bars: listen to live music, see live dances and try spicy drinks. In the Teetotum at the weekend, you can also watch movies directly on the roof, in Ak'iin you will enjoy the performances of local DJs and gay parties. One of the most luxurious establishments in Tulum - Sky Bar with a real palm garden on the roof, be sure to visit there.
Pyramids and ruins of Tulum
The word "tulúm" is translated from the Yucatec language as "fence" or "wall" .This is understandable: located on the coast of the ancient city is fenced on all sides by walls with a height of 3-5 meters and a thickness of up to 8 meters and sheer cliffs .In these places there are many buildings from the Maya civilization - this is the main attraction is .Some ruins can only guess what was there, others are very well preserved .In general, the structures of giant slabs do not fit into the framework of the generally accepted history - even using modern technology to build something like this is very difficult..How it could be done several thousand years ago - the question is .
In the old town there are ruins of houses, watchtowers and Castillo Fortress. Among all the buildings, the Temple of Frescoes with two galleries, dedicated to the "Descent of the God" of the Maya, is filled with sculptures and frescoes. The ruins of the old town are 3 km from Tulum Pueblo. You can order a taxi (40 pesos or $ 3), but many ride bicycles - 20 minutes with a breeze along the beautiful road, and you're there, besides, you can drive directly to the ruins themselves.
Your car will have to be left in a parking lot (50 pesos) and walk to the ruins to the ruins or rent a minivan that will take you from the entrance directly to the ruins for 20 pesos.
The archaeological complex is open from 8:00 to 16:30, so it's best to arrive early in the morning, or before closing, because the Babylonian pandemonium is here in the afternoon. Entrance to the complex - 57 pesos, if you notice a video camera, can take an additional fee, you can hire a guide here.
Another attraction of Tulum in addition to the chic sea and the beach are cave systems and cenotes, of which there are a great many. Beauty is indescribable, so you need to visit them, and stalactites and stalagmites can be seen under water, for example, in the Grand Cenote. Entrance - 100 pesos, rental mask and fin - 70 pesos.
