Weather in Morocco by month
Morocco is located in the extreme north-west point of Africa, in the Maghreb, that is, the area between the Atlas Mountains and the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. From the Arabic "Maghreb" translates as "west", and if Japan is called the Land of the Rising Sun, then Morocco, on the contrary, is a country where the luminary leaves for rest.
The natural diversity of the landscape zones in Morocco, the proximity of the cold currents of the Atlantic Ocean, the presence of high Atlas mountains and proximity to the Sahara largely determined the features and heterogeneity of the country's climate .In general, it can be described as subtropical, but further away from the coast, it acquires pronounced features of the continental climate .The weather in Morocco is hot and dry in summer and fairly warm and humid in winter..At the same time in some places, minus temperatures can hold during all three winter months .
Winter and summer in the southern regions of Morocco
The southern regions of the country adjoin the Sahara, this largely affects their climate. There is very little precipitation (up to 200 mm per year), and there is also a high contrast of temperatures. The weather forecast for Morocco in the southern regions in summer can be variable: in the daytime air can be heated up to +40 ° C, whereas at night without warm clothes there is no way. And in winter, quite frequently at night, the thermometer can drop below 0 degrees Celsius, while in the daytime the air warms up to +30 ° C.
The vegetation of this region is very poor, mostly represented by bushes and dwarf palms, Berber thai and junipers grow on mountain slopes. It is also here that Argan tree grows, from the fruits of which one of the most valuable essential oils in the world is extracted.
The central part of Morocco in summer and winter is
In the central part of Morocco, the Atlas Mountains range is located .Stretching in four rows from the south-west to the northeast, they are a natural protective barrier that does not allow dry and hot air masses from the Sahara to the coastal regions of the country .And in turn they block the access of moist air masses from the Atlantic to the south .Therefore, in the mountains there is a very large amount of precipitation (1500-2000 mm per year), there are often floods here .It should be noted that in winter precipitation falls in the form of snow, in the highlands the thickness of the snow cover can exceed five meters .
This circumstance makes it possible to develop the Moroccan ski resorts (Ifran, and Azru, which is located near the most mountain peaks). Ski runs are suitable for skiing throughout the winter, because the snow here lies until the middle of March. When the snow begins to melt, it fills the Moroccan rivers, as well as fresh mountain lakes, which are very rare in Africa. Along the rivers are oases with an incredible amount of date palms.
It is equally interesting to visit this region in the summer, in order to appreciate the beauty of the local places. The foot of the mountains is the most fertile region of the country. Here grow cedars, stone oaks, as well as orange and mandarin trees, the fruits of which are exported all over the world.
Western regions of Morocco
The western regions of Morocco are characterized by the most favorable climatic conditions. The weather in Morocco in the western regions in winter here is really warm, with a lot of precipitation (especially in December), the air temperature in the daytime is almost never below +15 degrees Celsius. Summer is dry with an average daily temperature of +28 degrees, in August temperatures are the highest to +33 degrees in the afternoon and around +21 at night.
Due to the proximity of the ocean (in particular to the cold air masses brought by the Canary Current) and remoteness from the Sahara, which is on the other side of the Atlas, in the west of the Moroccan state, there is never any heat, and even relatively high temperatures are carried very easily. In the morning hours, fogs can often be observed here. Especially this phenomenon is inherent in the region of the most popular resort city of Morocco - Agadir.
And although the weather conditions contribute to year-round rest (cold winter can be observed only in the north of the country), it is preferable to go to Morocco in the spring or autumn, when there is no exhausting heat, if you are aiming for excursion rest, or frequent rains to fully rest on the ocean shore. In the middle of spring, landscapes with flowering citrus groves on plains in the foothills are especially mesmerizing.
However, lovers of beach holidays should take into account that the water in the Atlantic Sea off the coast of Morocco rarely warms up more than +20 ° C, and its average annual temperature ranges from +16 ... +18 ° С.
