New Year Bulgarians begin to celebrate the evening of December 31. Like Russians, the inhabitants of a sunny country consider: the richer the table is, the more fertile the year will be. In the middle of the table they put ritual loaves decorated with images of vines and hives, fields and gardens. Always put a coin in the loaf. Before supper, the oldest member of the family cassocks a caraway table, reads a prayer and breaks a loaf. Who will get the coin, that will be carried all around the year.

A special place on the New Year's table is occupied by a banitza - it is a puff cake baked inside with cedar branches, each of which symbolizes a house and domestic animals, health and success in schooling.

After midnight, young people and adolescents with dogwood branches in their hands go to their neighbors, pat them on their backs with good wishes . Well-known for these twigs, called Bulgarians "srvachkami, well-wishers called surrakarami . Participants in this action are convinced that in this way they clean themselves.
