On November 1, 2013, a direct flight between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Mauritius was opened. The flights are operated by Transaero Airlines from Moscow's Domodedovo Airport to Sir Sivusagar Ramgoolam International Airport (or Plaisance), which is located 46 km south of Port Louis near the town of Maheborg. This is the only international airport in Mauritius. It is named after Sir Sivusagar Ramgoolam, the first Prime Minister.

In addition, Transaero operates direct charter flights to Mauritius from Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. During the New Year holidays-2014, charters were carried out on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with departure from Moscow at 23:20 and arrival in Mauritius at 9:40. Return flights were made on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays at 11:10, with return to the Russian capital at 21:35.
