Sohar is the historical homeland of Sinbad-Mariner. Situated 230 km from the capital, this ancient port city was once the capital of the country. His name he received from the great-grandson of the biblical Noah - Sohar. Today the city attracts tourists with its large market ("bough") with a variety of goods. Also known is Fort Sokhara, whose four-tiered walls and five towers stand out in the distance, representing a truly impressive sight.

Beaches of Sohar
The long sandy beach of Sohar never fails to fill up with neither sun-roasting campers nor noisy local companies. The water is very clean, but the shade may not be enough: rare "mushrooms" are more likely for picnic gatherings of large Oman families than for individual rest. It is necessary to remember the strong ocean currents and not swim far. Located near Sokhara, the island of Savadi is not without reason a paradise for divers.
Entertainment, excursions and attractions of Sohar
The main city attraction is the fort, whose history dates back to the 1st c. The current construction was erected in the 13th and 14th centuries. This is the only fortress in Oman with whitewashed walls. From the top of the fort there is a breathtaking view of the harbor and the residential areas of Sohar. Also worth going on an excursion to the traditional village of Hibi and the oasis of Al-Gudafari (63 km from the city).
