Macau (aka Macau) is located in Guangdong Province on the coast of the South China Sea, in the Pearl River Delta, 60 km southwest of Hong Kong. For almost 450 years, it was a Portuguese colony, which in many ways determined the external appearance of the city, its culture and way of life. On December 20, 1999, Macau came under the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China, in commemoration of which a spectacular "Blossoming Lotus" monument was erected on the Lotus Square opposite the Fisherman's Wharf amusement park.

What is Macau today? One of the most densely populated cities in the world and the largest on the entire planet gambling stash. Here is the largest casino in the world "Venetianets". Walking in the Old City, it's easy to imagine that you are somewhere in Europe (with the amendment for street signs in Chinese) - temples, fortresses and other entourage in stock. And suddenly stumbling upon a statue of Avalokiteshvara by the sea, next to the Sands Casino and MGM, you are surprised to notice that it looks more like a traditional European Madonna than a Buddhist bodhisattva.

The central part of Macao, the most attractive for tourists, is located on the peninsula of the same name. A large part of the peninsula with 25 buildings on it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humanity.
