Regular rail service on 4 Allegro high-speed trains between St. Petersburg and Helsinki will begin on December 12, 2010. The journey time will first take three and a half hours, and in the future - three hours (now it is six hours). It is expected that with the introduction of new compounds within five years the passenger traffic between cities will triple.

The choice of the name of the company train is due to the fact that the word Allegro (in Italian - "fast") is pronounced easily both in Russian and in Finnish . The color of the wagons (red, blue and silver stripes on a white background) symbolizes the colors of the national flags of Russia and Finland.

New high-speed trains are designed to replace the existing Sibelius and Repin trains currently running between St. Petersburg and Helsinki.

Allegro trains meet the technical requirements of the EU and Russia and have a "double" voltage to travel freely on existing railways of both countries and develop a maximum speed of 220 km per hour . Each train consists of 7 cars offering 350 m for passengers, restaurant, business class area, children's play area, necessary facilities for disabled people and special places for passengers traveling with pets . Each place is equipped with a folding table, a footrest, a pocket for magazines and newspapers , sockets for mobile phones and laptops . Passenger information is given in Russian, Finnish and English languages with the help of speakers and digital screens . Smoking on the train is prohibited during the whole trip .

All visa procedures Do not run on the road, without stopping at the border. One-way ticket in the first and second class cars is quite inexpensive: 134 EUR and 84 EUR, respectively. It is worth saying that the pleasant trend of lowering the cost of travel touched and air transport. For example, from Helsinki air tickets to Moscow recently also "please the eye" - about 150 EUR for one-way flight

Preparation of railroad tracks in Russia and Finland

Increasing the speed of rolling stock up to 220 km / h required updating railway tracks both in Russia and in Finland. On the stretches of St. Petersburg - Buslovskaya and Lahti - Luumeki - Vainikkala, repairs were carried out, and a new line was built between Petayayarvi and Kamennogorsk.

Karelian Trains is a joint venture of the Finnish national railway company VR Ltd and JSC Russian Railways, which was created for implementation of the project to create high-speed transportation between St. Petersburg and Helsinki and provide technical support. VR Ltd and JSC Russian Railways will be jointly responsible for scheduling, customer service and tariff setting.
